Where did my brothers cell phone end up?

Ok this is an odd one.Flying back from Canada I observed my brother taking photos with his cell phone (Apple 5 I think no case)After landing my brother announces he has dropped the phone and can't find it.3 complete searches,under seats ,not in luggage,no answer from a ring up,we can't find it...I know he had it flight...says it dropped off his lap but the only floor opening in theBravo is the trim wheel slot and the booted rudder pedals...any ideas before I start pulling belly panels??

Try the search my phone app from Apple...  If it is on it should show up on the network. They are so slim they can easily slide between the seat and something else.

If memory served me correctly, I wouldn't need this app....

I know someone who was using their phone for pictures, put it on their lap, and it went out the door of the Mooney very quickly during the turn to the taxiway off the runway.  Obviously, the door was opened for venting purposes while on roll out, and the turn was to the left.  Go check the tarmac where you made left turns.

We called it first thing...could not hear it .I was pretty beat from a long cross border intl flight with weather and icing so I wasn't in the mood for a long search in 100 degree heat.we didn't think to use the find my phone app,just wanted to go home and take a nap!...now it looks like we start removing seats!

You can use the find my phone from home. I think it needs to be not in airplane mode though.

Try the "find my Phone" app as it will geo-locate it and make it produce a sound even if it has the volume turned off, IIRC. Had to use the app this year when I went to Sun-n-Fun as my phone slid off the co-pilot seat and dropped between the trim wheel and seal rails after landing. Looked all over the plane, but didn't see it in its black case until it made the sound from locating it with the app. Best of luck!

Did you check all the pockets in the upholstery? I have one by each knee, on the front of each seat and one on the back of each seat. Did you check under the carpet?

Yes,yes,and yep....I am also worried about it jamming a flight control!

If your hear the ring tone on the calling phone then the lost phone must be ringing unless the ringing is disabled. Did you check on the ramp? If you didn't hear it ringing in the plane must likely it is on the ramp.

Well.....thinwing did say it was his brothers phone thereby deflecting ineptitude to his sibling.....unless you consider his inability to find said phone as complicit.  

Thinwing....this isn't so bad....I can have a tool in my hand one minute, spend thirty minutes searching and find the hanger elves managed to slip it in my back pocket while I wasn't looking. 

You guys did search all clothing, bags, jackets, ect. ?

Look UP!

years ago my boss got out of his truck at work and dropped his ID on the,,, well,,, down...

he looked ,, twice, then came in perplexed, others went and looked too, came back perplexed...

Now it is my turn.   after the normal search,  I got on the ground, under the truck,,,  nothing!

now I turn over and look up,  there between the body in a small space above the frame rail,

barely sticking out,,,  his ID is wedged...

I got to be the hero,,,   yippy!

look under and in behind the control panel, mostly on his side...

A couple years ago I dropped a pocket knife while seated in my J.  Searched high and low for it for days then gave up.  Assumption was that it had somehow fallen into my winter clothing and once I left the plane, it had fallen away and was lost.  Fast forward to this years annual.  Guess what turned up inside (yes inside) the pilot side seat.  It worked its way between the seat back and "bottom" seat and was comfortably ensconced between the foam and the seat pan.

Well I had a fuel strainer that went AWOL for over a year....magically appeared in the back seat last month.  No idea how/where it went in the interim...  So give it a year or so and the cell phone will suddenly reveal itself!

hope it's not in airplane mode. If the battery isn't dead, find my iphone (as stated above) is your best friend.  Get close to where it is and the use FMiP to play a tone.  The tone is pretty loud.  Get to it quick before the battery dies.  Good luck!

I hate to say it, but if I lost something like that, I would not stop until it was found or I completely ruled out that it was nowhere it could cause harm.

It's where my checklist goes for a couple of flights at a time.  It seems to show back up.  The backup is glued to the panel. My transition instructor says that all things go to the back of a mooney because of the slope.   Probably under the seat.  Slide forward and backward and feel with hand.

When it gets worse is working on the engine or airframe and you are missing a wrench that maybe somewhere in the engine attached to a bolt ready to give you problems. Keep track of your tools. I have found on Mooneys (wrench) and airliners (rivet bucking bar) tools from the factory inside the wing.

Pull the seats. It'll take 15 minutes and make it easier to search. If you can't find it with the seats out, chances are it's no longer in the plane. Don't forget to pull the rear seat bottom.
