I was gong to have my GTN software upgraded next week. Looks like I should wait until August (and let Don find the bugs).

Almost right, if I understood the Garmin Customer Service rep right.  While the OnePak provides the IFR Premium subscription, you still have to purchase the basic subscription.

Don, you're referring to Garmin Pilot? Or for the 696? Or both?

According to the write up, with the OnePak you get everything you got with the PilotPak plus all the databases to one handheld GPS plus the IFR upgrade to the iPad.  Like I said, quite a reduction in subscription prices, since you don't have to purchase the Bundle for the 796 or pay the added price for the IFR portion to Garmin Pilot AND the price of the OnePak is cheaper than the PilotPak.

Regarding the Flight Stream 510, it sounds like the same features as the 210 unit but without AHRS and installation of a base unit. Is that everyone's interpretation?

I haven't even been able to get it to understand English on some commands.  It will be interesting to see if Garmin fixed those problems.

I am starting to feel good about my GTN 750/650, GTX 345 configuration with Pilot on an iPad.

Not sure my wife will feel as good when I tell her I want to

Invest another $1500 for a Flight stream 510.

PS:. Great marketing move Garmin.

Called Garmin today, rolled my GTN 650 and Aera 796 into one combined

subscription. Saved some nice coin doing it while actually getting more stuff.

Both my 750 and 796 need updating..curious to see what $ is? I've been waiting for my panel to get done..Hopefully cheaper

Wonder if "Tennessee" talk is in the database. I've still got some Yankee in me so I can usually get computers to understand me after a few times repeating myself. My other half is 100% Tennessee. She had a heck of time with On-Star or Siri understanding Southern talk.. lol

In March I paid Garmin $1300 for US Std + FltCharts for the GTN750 and lite for the GPS696.

I called Garmin this morning and switched to OnePak. The $800+ refund for unused months was enough to pay for a full 12 months from now for three devices: the 750, the 696 and full IFR w charts for GarminPilot on my new Android tablet!  

Paid for our stay in KOSH!

Great.  See you at Osh.  Missing the Caravan this year.  My plane is in Annual and being upgraded some more.  Exchanging out the GTX 330ES for the GTX 335 and the GMA 35 with the GMA 35C.  Both upgrades not necessary, but I like the display of the 335.  The GMA 35c gives me Bluetooth and a 2 year warranty to get Garmin to make sure all the PTC Commands work.  After the  new System Update to the GTNs next month, there will be several hundred more Commands available.

Nothing "nice" about this- just Classic Garmin: introduce a new feature, then up charge the living snot out of it.  I really enjoy how they increased the subscription rate by 50% too (did I read that right?). Brutal!

Avidyne had several features that Garmin either copied or brought late to the game such as the pinch and zoom, station identification in the actual frequency to name a couple off the top of my head. Avidyne also has the ability to look up VOR frequencies by entering the station identifier, a hybrid interface so you're not relegated to only using the touchscreen, and several other features that either escape me right now or I don't know about since I'm still learning the product. I agree though that competition has been good and Garmin makes fine products, so I don't mean to sound like I'm slamming on Garmin. Just pro-competition.

Do you get navdata etc from Avidyne or a 3rd party? How does the subscription cost compare to Garmin? Would you credit Avidyne for Garmin's more realistic pricing? If so I might go my and thank them next week!
