Pictreed Posted July 19, 2016 Report Posted July 19, 2016 I took my plane in for some avionics work and the JPI seems to have lost the first digit on the readout for the battery. When charging it says 3.2. Has anyone had this problem? Tim

Mine went in the shop once and apparently they bumped the plug-in harness that plugs to the head unit on the dash..I was getting all kind of crazy reading. I looked under the dash and reseated it and worked fine. BTW...Your yokes will finally go out tomorrow. Took them a while, but finally out and ready to go -Tom
Pictreed Posted July 19, 2016 Author Report Posted July 19, 2016 Awesome. I'll get them installed when I get the Aspen. They did a lot of work under the panel so I'm sure it got bumped. I went to pick it up today and had to wait a few hours because a Hawker blew a main tire (or two) on the runway at Denton. As soon as they got it off the runway about (5) 152s raced to take off...ugh! That's not including all the aircraft that was either holding or at nearby airports. It was a mess. It looks like all the left side is out on the JPI...The left digit and the #1 cylinder. It's just blank. I'll have a look under there this weekend.
larryb Posted July 19, 2016 Report Posted July 19, 2016 Tim: If you want a spare, I have a working-when-removed JPI 700 available, removed when I installed my 900. I'm keeping the probes as spares for my new system, since the probes are the same. So this is just the main unit. PM me if interested. Larry

PMcClure Posted July 19, 2016 Report Posted July 19, 2016 I am missing several segments. I understand they can be repaired fairly easy.

Most likely the display connector (contact cleaner) or the display driver. I have seen this on the King radios (KNS 80, KX 165 and others). José Edited July 20, 2016 by Piloto
Pictreed Posted July 20, 2016 Author Report Posted July 20, 2016 I was able to take off both 'parallel' looking plugs and inspect the wiring. Everything looks good. There's a comprehensive trouble shooting guide on JPI's website that I'm going to look at. Found out I've got a couple screw recepticals on the cowl that are failing so I've got to go to Aircraft Spruce tomorrow. Tinnerman??? One was torn all the way out so I made a temporary backing. Tim
rbridges Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 the display started going bad in my UBG16. I had to send it back to have the LCD replaced.
carusoam Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 Dog house Tiny tinnermans are a challenge to find... -a-
MHemperly Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Just had the LCD replaced in my edm 700. Cost is $250 mike
Aerodon Posted July 22, 2016 Report Posted July 22, 2016 I have several EDM800's if you would rather put the 'repair money' towards an upgrade. Can add fuel flow, MP, OP, OAT, OT, % Power and get all the features of an EDM830. Can also upgrade to the EDM830 if you want. Don supercub180@gmail.com
Hector Posted July 23, 2016 Report Posted July 23, 2016 My apologies for hijacking the thread, but does anyone know of an angle mount for the JPI 730/830? Mine is too far to the right and I have to lean over to see it well. I would prefer an angle mount rather than moving it which would result in having to rearrange a bunch of stuff. carusoam Posted July 24, 2016 Report Posted July 24, 2016 It may be really deep. Try to get a feeling if it would work with an angle mount. tealoy deep in terms of the length of the device itself that is behind the panel. Best regards, -a-

Don supercub180@gmail.com Don, I think the next upgrade will be a 900 series. $250 isn't too bad for a quick fix. Tim
