I'm thinking of selling my very nice M20C.  It's in great condition. It looks great. It has been very well maintained with no expense spared on maintenance. And it has one of the best equipped (non-glass) panels you'll find in a C. It has every speed mod available from LASAR. Don Maxwell claims it's the fastest C he's ever flown. So if you're looking for a top of the line C, this is it.  I'll be flying it to Oshkosh this year and it will wear a For Sale sign there. After over 200 hours of long cross country travel in the last two years, I've decided to move up to an M20K.

I'll give you $100 for the cool N-number! She's a fine plane; you'll miss her. Can't wait to see the new one!

That is one nice-looking Mooney. I hope you get what you want but do have the worry that you're priced out of the C's.  That much money buys quite a bit of Mooney. I hope I'm wrong, from the looks of it the aircraft is well worth it.

Everything is negotiable, of course. And I agree with you that I might be asking a bit much for a C. But I don't see anything on the market that is close to this airplane for under $80K. Typically Mooney's and all used aircraft are an exercise in compromise.  Airplanes can have paint/interior, performance upgrades, or panel, but almost never all three.  Even with unlimited funds, the only thing that could be done to this plane is to add GPSS, which is only about a $2000 upgrade.

I'm certainly guilty of spending excessively on this airplane, and should probably keep it forever.  It's as fast as most E's and F's and faster than many of them. It has a better panel then many late model J's and K's. It's got better paint and interior than most examples 20 years newer. It's got a mid-time engine, but it is a 0 time factory engine, so not one that's been overhauled prior.

Having said all of that, it's still an M20C and I'm sure there is a value ceiling. I'm probably there, if not over it.

Compared to the prices I've seen on C's from a certain unnamed broker, this is almost a steal.  I  unfortunately have put my dreams of owning on hold for a bit, again....

Just out of curiousity, you say fast C, what do you flight plan for? GPH and TAS. Looks and sounds like an amazing plane.

It does somewhat depend on temperature and altitude. Cooler and higher gives me better speed and reduced fuel burn.

In the best case, assume winter and 10,000 ft +, I'll plan 150kts TAS and 8 GPH.

Worst case, Texas summer at 6000 ft, I'll plan for 145kts TAS and 10GPH.

The best I've seen is 154 TAS and 7.6 GPH on long/high cross country trips.

Unless your budget is significant your going to have a hard time finding any model that's as nice. Good luck with the sale and the search.

I love this plane!  Serious question, does anyone know the cost (and if it's practical) to convert the gear to electric?  As some of you know, I have an issue with my right shoulder, and really need electric gear.

That's a great looking C and with everything most people would need/want. If I was in the market I would definitely look at it. I'll mention it to a couple of friends currently on the fence

Nice plane.  congrats on stepping up to an M20K. :)

When I first started looking at airplanes, I was immediately lusting after your 252. But it was just too much to invest in a first airplane, when you don't know if you'll use it, or even like airplane ownership. After two years and 350 hours, 250 of which are long cross country hours in the C, I'm gonna go get me a 252.

Nice J's and K's  are well above this price.  And look at what it would cost to put an auto pilot in a plane, a WAAS GPS, and ADSB-out.  Then consider the other items this plane has, like a fuel tank strip and reseal 8 years ago, good paint, engine monitor, etc.  I think a very lucky person will end up with this plane.

Please message me if you haven't sold by mid August. I'm in a sandy land far far away, but in the market when I get home. This plane has everything I've been looking for. Need a work commuter. Mostly just me, and maybe do some volunteer work with angel flight. Thanks and good luck.

I wouldn't bat an eye at the price for this plane if it checked out on pre-buy. It's a ton of plane for the money.  For the price of this really nice C, the best you could do would be a beater of a J.

I do have some good interest on this plane and hope to get it sold some time this summer.  It should easily pass a pre-buy as I've spared no expense on maintenance. The annuals are all Don Maxwell, and other maintenance done at Southwest Texas Aviation (a MSC in San Marcos and holder of the Southwest Texas Mods STC's).

It was just in for an oil change at STA and the belly strobe was out. A day later I retrieved it with a fresh oil change and a brand new Whelen LED beacon on the belly.

By the way... not a good idea to inspect the LED beacon by looking directly at it while someone goes and turns it on. They are wicked bright!

Interested as well but I have to wait to hear back on my 3rd class medical... I'm in the market for a bird I can use to finish my ppl (already have a sport cert), and then use as a time builder / nice XC platform. I do wish I could find something that's been turbo-normalized just to deal with the 12,000' DA days we get here at my home base.

What is your useful load?

Have you had a medical in the past 10 years? The 3rd class medical reform is about to go past the President's desk and should be law this week. All we have to wait for is the FAA, and they're given 180 days to acknowledge it.

Nope, problem is I was diagnosed with ADHD about 8 years ago right after starting college. I'm only 26 and in perfect health other than that stupid diagnosis. Fortunately my AME has most of the regional flight surgeons on speed dial and we basically were told that I'd get a 1-year special issuance the first time around and be set after that.

Good luck! AOPA and Dr. Chein are really really valuable in getting one. I had an issue with mine. I was born with my brain refusing to look out of my right eye. Amblyopia. When it was discovered (I was 12), the Optometrist said: "well, you'll never be a pilot or a cop".

I'm sitting on a 3rd class medical with a SODA for vision flight test, and I work in Law Enforcement as dispatch, thinking of going to the academy and becoming sworn. :D

Yeah I went to Dr. Steinkraus at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I talked to AOPA and Dr. Chein about it a little but Steinkraus was by far the most helpful. I was referred to him by my dad who still has a 1st class medical and flies for Delta after having a very minor stroke.
