201er Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Saturday February 27, 2016. Tipton Airport, Fort Meade MD Alan Fox brings his wrecking crew to tear apart a Mooney M20E. 2 Quote
tony Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 How come Alan wouldn't let anyone else play with the saw? Quote
Marauder Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 The Boogie Man strikes again!!!! Alan! A-I-L-E-R-O-N, not elevator. You find me a decent set, I'll be there. Also looking for a door on a modern plane (single side pin. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Guest Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I wonder how many hours Mooney took to build it compared to how many hours Alan took to disassemble it? Clarence Edited March 1, 2016 by M20Doc Quote
MB65E Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Nice work Boogie Man! You provide a needed service! There was not a straight piece of metal on that whole thing it looked like. Cheers, Matt Quote
DonMuncy Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 With nothing but an abundance of ignorance on my part to work with, it seemed to me like a pretty wasteful exercise. Had the control tubes been removed, or were they cut. Was speed of removal such a factor that they destroyed a lot of salvageable parts. Or perhaps I just could not tell. Quote
MB65E Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 I thought the same thing about the tubes Don, but it was pretty mangled. I wanted the windscreen until I realized how much effort it would have taken to remove it safely. More effort than a new one costs. Small spares only it looked like. -Matt Quote
Guest Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 One of the other problems is that CB's everywhere don't want to pay for parts no matter how cheap they are. In some cases it's not worth removing them. Clarence Quote
Alan Fox Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Ok the control tubes in the wings very rarely fail , plus the gear was pancaked so hard they collapsed , would YOU want those tubes???The big tubes in the back were sold on sight , as well as the right elevator , The only salvageable parts in the tail were the trim jack , and the link , link already sold.... The Glass is still in tact (windshield) but probably not worth the effort to remove , And you cant leave a cut up airplane on an airport .......There was very little wasted ...There is also the problem of owners being too cheap , especially in the Mooney community..... It cost me close to a thousand to inspect , bid , and remove this aircraft the way I did it...Now I can pick it apart at my leisure before I scrap it.... 3 Quote
DonMuncy Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 I was right to in the sense that my ignorance was giving me false impressions. I should have known that anyone in the business would have thought of all these things before starting. Maybe my thought process was colored by the vision of a Mooney being sawed into pieces. Quote
201er Posted March 1, 2016 Author Report Posted March 1, 2016 Alan gives a lot of shout outs to Mooneyspace members throughout the video. Watch for your name, you may have been publicly called out by the boogie man! Quote
steingar Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 We'll see more of this sort of thing in the future. Lots of airplanes that haven't flown for years for whatever reason. Need to much to become flightworthy, isn't financially viable. They'll get scrapped by this guy and others like him. I know of an airworthy 310 that got sent to scrap because no one wanted to buy it. 1964-M20E Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Hard to look at mine has the same paint scheme. Not as quick but I had to disassemble a Mooney like that even though it was basically scrap I hated to do it. Alan won't let anyone else play with the saw because you can do a lot of damage to the human body with one. Finally that Mooney kept fighting until the bitter end. RIP N5512Q M20E my your part be used to keep other Mooney's flying longer. Quote
Pictreed Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Was that windscreen in bad shape? it would have been great to just cut around that part of the cabin to get the trim and everything. Quote
kevinw Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 It's like watching a slow, painful death. Quote
bonal Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 definitely supports my theory that these things are basically flying beer cans but I was just wondering that saw looks pretty intense and no safety glasses. yikes! 3 Quote

The windscreen is still good , BUT it will take the better part of a day to remove in tact and expensive to ship , also no STC.... SO what is its real value ???? I did not include it in my Bid , but I never include glass.... In fact , I gave the glass free of charge to the gentleman who purchased the tubes and elevator for free , as he helped without asking , or asking for anything..... He even bought every one lunch....... Edited March 2, 2016 by Alan Fox 1 Quote
carl Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I got some needed parts for my M20 E . Plus I met, Alan,Terry , Larry, and the parrot wizard, Mike,(he had the same pants) and MariAnna and others . Alan knows what he is doing and would not sell me some parts I wanted because they were over stressed in the landing ,so he scraped them . Good call. My IA has the parts i got and says they will work on my plane. It was a great winter day carl 3 Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 Glad to see the field get cleared. Parts available. Money made. Recycling occur. Appendages remain intact. De-construction ultimately AIDS construction and cosmetics of the remaining fleet. NICE. Learned: 1 bad ass saw makes up for a lack of tools... Quote
