Mooney down around Montréal

drapo

Recommended Posts

I had recently read his post about the trip to Florida with his son and thought how nice it would be to do something like that one day.  So this is certainly sobering news.   Hopefully we can learn something of this sad event; I'm sure with all his enthusiasm for aviating he would have wanted us to learn something.

Really sorry to read this. So glad his young son survived.  I never met Houman, but I read that thread with interest since I am making the same trip to KEYW from southern CA. I actually came into Pensacola today from San Diego.

I am wondering how fatigued he may have been setting up for that landing. From the comments I've read above, with the helpful details Yves, drapo, carquik  provided and the pictures in the news, its really looking more like a stall/spin. In other words, really looks like nothing to do with the runway assuming the plane went down maneuvering to it. Anyway, very sad. I also imagine the Canadian TSB probably takes a full year like our NTSB to issue their findings.

Please keep us posted on the condition of his son Yves. I talked to Hounan in November about buying a rocket and what his thoughts were. He was very helpfull and passionette about flying his Mooney and was looking forward to meeting him someday. Hope his son will be fine.

Just went to the hospital where both were transported after the accident. Sean has been transfered to another hospital on the 28th. This hospital is not around here. I will try to call ASAP. I have no info on his condition.

I will keep you all posted when I have some news.

I am heart broken Houman.

Thank goodness for your son.

I am saddened too.  I met Houman at the formation flying clinic in May 2015 in West Virginia.  He was newish to his Rocket then but very encouraged and wanted to learn as much as he could.  Very into making himself a better pilot.

I flew on his wing on our first flight with two instructors.  He had between 100 and 200 hours and if I recall was working on his Instrument rating.  He was still learning the Mooney and it sounds like he attended a lot of proficiency training in an effort to make himself a better pilot.

The fact that the aircraft may not have been under power makes me think back to that first formation flight.  We ended it early because of a gear retraction issue in the Rocket.  He had to use his bypass.  He had posted about that if I recall.  If his aircraft wasn't under power, that makes me wonder if there may have been other mechanical issues under the surface.  I know he owed the aircraft with a partner who owned it for a while prior.

Prayers to him and his family.  I'm glad his son survived and I hope he recovers quickly.  He loved his son.  I know I have some pictures of his Rocket and will post when I find them.

Take care,

-Seth

I called the hospital where Houman's son is supposed to be and they could not find him in their database. There are a few possibilities:

He was released in the last few days

OR

He is still there under a different name (In Quebec, child can bear the last name of their mother or father or both). Since Houman was divorced, there is no easy mean to find his ex coordinates (Sean's mother)

OR

He is in a different hospital

The hospital admin were not too cooperative to provide me with info since I am not a relative

I will attempt getting a hold of the investigators on Monday.

Stay tuned!

Prayers for his son & family.

Sorry I Just saw the post.  I knew Houman only briefly, met & spent some time with him in person at the Mooney Carvan to Oshkosh.  Several email & Mooneyspace exchanges and a couple phone conversations where I shared my Rocket information.  As posted earlier Houman seemed genuinely passionate about learning all he could about flying and his Rocket he shared intrest in.

I pray his son recovers completely and quickly.

a fourth scenario is that he has been given a "code name" in the hospital's database. This keeps the press, etc. somewhat at arms length while he recovers. Mine was Clark Kent when recovering. With the medication I was taking, it should have been Heisenberg or Walter White

Yves, do keep me up to date, as we want to reach out to the proper people to help Sean. Thanks for your efforts

Not yet but I hope to have some soon. I just got the name of the TSB investigator. Her boss confirmed to me that she will contact me ASAP. Not sure how much she can disclose though.

Stay tuned.

Finally got some news from Houman's sister: Sean (Houman's son) got out of the hospital yesterday. I did not ask for all details of his wounds however she disclosed he had an ankle fracture and some scars. He is doing well.

Yves,

Thank you for keeping us updated on this horrific situation. I know it must not be the easiest thing to do when it reminds us of our lost friend, but I will speak for myself and probably others when I say I appreciate you doing this.

Just got an email contact with a family member. Houman's funerals will be this coming Saturday in Laval Quebec. I will provide more details ASAP.

Yves,

Thanks for your efforts keeping us up to date.

Any word on the funeral home?  I'd like to send flowers or do something for a charity in his name.
