I'd like to have a climate controlled hangar. Is this crazy talk? Ideally it would stay at a nice 84 degrees in the summer to keep costs down. Would this help keep the airplane in better condition and do they exist?

Mine is probably around 84° at sunrise! This afternoon, it felt more like 184°, but it was an even 100° outside according to the FBO's weather station.

If you can afford an air conditioned hangar, you can afford a bigger plane.

Most hangars have poor insulation and would cost a fortune to air condition.

I have a swamp cooler for when I'm working on the plane. It will usually get the hangar down below 100.

This past Saturday I was taking a break and took my lazar thermometer and poitnted it at the west wall of the hangar......127.4*, the plane was a cool 98 in the shade. I've considered a small 110v A/C unit on a cart with some flexible round ducting that I could move around as needed got the idea from a local avionics shop (they have several)

I have a portable air conditioner and it works very well to keep me cool when I am at a specific station. I can use it while working on the inside or while changing a spark plug. I can also face it toward a seating area and people can chill out literally prior to gettin in the plane.

I do like the idea of a swamp cooler. I wonder if it will make any adverse impact due to the extr humidity.

Avoiding high humidity is helpful if you can manage it. Aluminum has a very long life even if gets wet unless you through salt into the equation. I've visited old wrecks out in the woods in Maine and marveled at how well the aluminum holds; it almost looked like new, although bent. My hangar is unheated and I see a little dew occassionally in the morning. I have a couple of electrical outlets and have been considering some kind of dehumidification strategy. If I come up with something good I'll post it. If I could afford a heated, actively dehumidified hangar I would have it but ,  .... alas $$$$$

I have small refrigerator with water and sodas in it. Drinking freezing water prior to start working on your plane plus high velocity fans helps on cooling down. Look into cooling vests. The military uses them for helicopter pilots and ground forces.

My hangar has R60 in the ceiling, R28 in the walls and stays fairly cool, insulation is a one time purchase. In winter the floor is heated with hot glycol, quite nice all year round.

Yes, get a hanger home at FA40, Ryan. I know of a couple of guys (one with an Acclaim) there that keep their planes in AC comfort...but remember, there are those on this list that think any plane from Florida is corroded junk, but it is ok to keep it tied down outside in New Jersey :)

I have been in some air conditioned hangars. They are called museums.

Brian, The POS hangers we are in leave a bit to be desired, (like new door seals, roof vents and new door rollers) but at least they are hangers, albeit considerably higher in cost than an insulated, well lit, electric door unit I had in Indy was. Steve does his best to keep the "sheds" functional. And we do have a bathroom! If you are part of the airport investors group, vote to spend a few $$ to keep these things up a bit better. :)
