I know the topic has been discussed, but there were not very many replies. With temps here in TN well into the 90s in the summer and some pretty good cold snaps during winter I'm considering the sheepskin seat cover route. I called Aero Comfort today and they are not making them anymore, but Hector gave me another company.

Question is for those of you that have used them. Do they really make a difference during the extreme seasons?. My hanger-mate swears by them in his twin. I hate to cover up this new leather upholstery, but I'm to the point in life were I'm function/comfort is as important as the newest avionics or paint. How about just the sheepskin seat-cushions? work?. I think I would prefer the full cover though to prevent constant re-adjust everytime I slide in and out.

I got custom ones on the fronts from Aero Comfort years ago... they are excellent year-round.

I'm about to design and spec my new seats and plan to use perforated leather in the center sections, and then give that a try and see if it helps with breathability in the summer.  I suspect I'll end up putting the sheepskins back on, though.  I don't really like the "look" of the full cover that wraps around all over, so I might see if I can get creative and some up with some sort of way to cut my covers down to just the center sections to match the new seats and clip/attach them in as needed.

I have the perforated leather seats, Scott, and they help dramatically in the hot humid summers we have down here.

You could also remvoe the forn seats and bring them to your local upolstry shop and thye can custom fit some for you if Aero Comfort does not have them or make them for you.

I thought they would be HOT during the summer months.

That was a concern I had as well, but I had also heard they actually worked well in the summer. In addition to the positive feedback to the thread I have noticed that many commercial airline pilots use them regularly. My plane is in for annual and upgrades. Might be a good time to order a set and give it a try. Thanks for the input.

Here is a icewater cooled seat cover.

I'm wondering how those ice chests for A/C and seat cooling will do when you hit some turbulence?

Do you have this product?

No, but there has been a few days lately I would have like to have had it.  They also make a vest you can wear.  I've been looking at the AC coolers.  If you use frozen plastic bottles and a small amount of water I don't think it would slosh over.

Negative, not hot at all. Sheepskin is first and foremost an insulator, so it protects you from the cold seat in the winter and the hot seat in the summer. Plus, it breathes and wicks moisture away just like any woolen fabric, so it keeps your backside cool and dry in the hotter months even when wearing shorts.

Of course, it only works on what it touches, which doesn't include your lower legs. Funny story...first summer I had my Mooney I was flying around on some hot days, and one day I noticed these two patterns of spots on the carpet in front of my seat. "What the heck is that?" I wondered, until it dawned on me that my LEGS were still sweating...but I assure you my butt was cool and dry.  Too much information?  :P

When I first started bike race - in the 1980s - we used to wear wool jerseys - short sleeve wool jerseys in the summer.  It sounds like it would be hot but it wasn't.  The material breaths beautifully and wicks and if it is a soft wool then it feels nice on the skin too.  The jerseys have been replaced with cheaper synthetic materials but not better materials in my opinion.

I find them uncomfortable. They are so thick that the seat bottom ends up too "short". Your butt is on the edge of the seat and your legs are unsupported.

Another argument AGAINST leather seats and for fabric.
