If you're going to do a complete strip and reseal and keep the airplane, get on the list and have Paul Beck at Weep No More or Edison at WetWingologists do it. Those two do them every week and they aren't learning on your airplane. They are each a Mooney flight away. 1 Quote
Schllc Posted Friday at 03:10 AM Report Posted Friday at 03:10 AM That task is so specialized, I would be very hesitant to try someone that doesn’t have the history of those two shops. I think someone said that WW only does mooney’s. that is a pretty important detail for me. I am scheduled there for April, and have seen the shop, as well as examples of work. It’s top notch. Quote

I wouldn’t be afraid to schedule with Maxwell, who now does the Monroy STC, but I had scheduled with Paul Beck over a year ago. I didn’t have any unairworthy leaks, but the topcoat was showing up in my sump samples. I went to Weep No More because I have transportation support to MSP from relatives in the area. Paul had me scheduled for 27 Jan, but I delivered the airplane to him early on 8 Jan due to other travel commitments. And the airplane is done already! I am happy, and will be very happy as soon as I can get the airplane back home. Hopefully, mid Feb. 1 Quote

I'm sure that Maxwell's shop is learning, but the question is still, "Do you want someone who has done 10 or 20 of these jobs, or someone that has done well into the thousands of tanks?" You can be sure you will be happy with Paul Beck's work at Weep No More. . 1 Quote
EricJ Posted Friday at 10:27 PM Report Posted Friday at 10:27 PM Maxwell's in TX have been doing tank patches for many years. They patched my airplane about seven years ago and it's still good, and now also offer full reseals. They're probably the closest. There are a few locals that can do patches, but I don't know of any place in AZ that can do a full reseal. Quote

If AZ is the top priority, you will have to settle for inexperienced. If quality is the top priority, there are suggestions above. Quote
Barzook Posted yesterday at 04:44 AM Report Posted yesterday at 04:44 AM I hope I can save you some time and money with my experience. I'm from Eastern Canada and needed a full reseal. I checked around my area (1000 km around me) and selected the best place with a lot of experience with wet tanks, repair jobs, I had good references too. They were supposed to take 5 weeks to do it. I got the plane back 5 months later. Still leaking and they had plugged all the seep holes at the bottom of the spars and the ones at the top of the spars. 2 years forward, it was still leaking. I sent the plane to Paul. That's what I should have done in the first place. To my defense, I didn't have enough experience back them to travel.accross the country, but should have just waited until I could. Paul or WW, both are probably the same quality but I wouldn't consider anyone else based on my experience! Quote
