We will begin shipping the backorder next week, the week of January 25th and once the backorder is cleared we will have enough inventory to carry us through the rest of this winter.

We will also have a 20 amp version available for the folks that like to run the Aerotherm Preheater devices for $399.99 plus shipping.

They have a remotely controlled thermostat in the works but the board production facility is behind

Latest app update, including the renewal process went live for Apple and Android today. Update your app and you'll be able to renew.

It is getting colder and the time to start preheating is upon us. Lows here in the Cincinnati are forecasted to start drawing down into the mid forties, so I will start preheating. It’s easy to do with SwitcheOn. I no longer have to drive out to the airport to plug in the engine block heater or my Tanis cabin heater. I run my SwitcheOn with the remote antenna option I have available and the antenna sits on the hangar roof with a magnet attachment.

I have three boxes shipping out today! I have a good inventory with more on the way. Luckily we got a huge order of microchips in before the shortage started to really become pronounced and I think we'll be able to make it through the winter.

I have several more SwitcheOn's going out today and I just plugged my airplane into my SwitcheOn the other day as I start migrating to colder operations. I'll preheat when temps get below 50 degrees. The airplane blankee goes on when below 30 degrees so that will probably go on toward the end of October for the rest of the winter.

My preheater setup:

1. Reiff engine heater (on all cylinders and the sump)

2. Bruce's Custom Cover engine cover and prop cover

3. Tanis cabin heater that I run through the storm window of the cabin door

4. SwitcheOn to control it all

When the temperatures get into the teens and I preheat, I'll come out to an engine that is around 130 degrees with a nice warm cabin too!

Is there a monthly cellular charge?  Or does the purchase price include lifetime service?

The first year of service is included and then it is $50 a year after that. It uses the Verizon network but you do not need to be a Verizon customer nor do you have to establish an account. Service renewals are done through the smart phone app and we take care of the interface with Verizon.

I have more 2 Channel boxes arriving today (or tomorrow, who knows with UPS). Assuming they come today, I will ship today. If they come tomorrow they will ship on Monday (I am going to Beech Party tomorrow!). I have several 15 amp 4 Channel devices and 20 amp 4 Channel devices in stock and ready to go. Couple that with a Tanis cabin preheater and you are gravy!

Any chance this could be converted to “off-grid” use…..ie, can the basic switch and cellular remain awake on 12vdc?  My hangar doesn’t have electricity, but I’m thinking of adding a solar power system.  In theory, the solar would charge a deep cycle battery system.  The switch would remain active from the 12vdc battery. When “activated” via cellular, it would turn on an inverter to power the 120vac engine heater for a couple hours in advance of the flight.  Solar recharges…..repeat.  So far, all I can find that might work are “gate openers” (RTU5025 for example) but they mainly have questionable pedigree.  It does not need to switch high current…not turn on the inverter.

Can you just buy an inverter that plugs into a car 12v outlet and hook it to the battery. Then you can plug in the Switcheon to the inverter.

I suspect that a small solar system could not keep up with the drain.  I could put a big solar network, but it gets expensive and also quite a “sail” on my hangar….  The battery network would also have to grow.  I guess the answer is, technically yes, but it blows my budget…..

I wouldn’t think the small cellular draw for the Switcheon would drain the 12vbattery (or 2) faster than the solar panel would charge it. I know my Switch goes offline and online periodically, maybe  using less electricity than being on all the time. The large draw for the heater would only be when you switch on the separate inverter plugged into the Switcheon.

Not an electrician, but the portable inverter I use in my car occasionally could be used to power my Switcheon. It shows the draw through the LED display on the inverter. I could see what the switch itself draws to monitor the cell signal next time I visit the hangar.

Maybe I misunderstood how this works.  If the Switcheon operates off of 12volts, that would likely work, however, it it only operates off of 115vac, then I think the inverter efficiency….or lack of….would draw down the battery overnight.

I guess that is a good question. How much would the inverter with very little draw through it actually use long term to run itself. If I figure it out I’ll let you know.
Plugging the inverter into a battery at home to see.

Hey Rob, it appears the inverter with very little draw uses almost no battery overnight. I took a charged 12v battery and hooked the inverter to it a plugged in an LED night light for 18 hours and at the start battery voltage was 12.35v and after 18 hours it was still at 12.3v.

Probably worth a try if you don’t have 110v in the hangar.
