I’d be more likely to buy an E5 if there was a more recognizable aircraft pictured in the ad...

The one pictured, probably needs all kinds of Extra instrumentation just to keep the sunny side up... Is that a single flap being deployed?

Good Morning Andy!

Looking forward to catching the presentation...

:)

Best regards,

I wish I had more control of the graphics they give me to use. ;) Enjoy the presentation.

Well, I listened to the webinar and something slightly bothered me.  The Aspen rep insists that the upgrade from an E5 to a Pro Max is a simple software upgrade. Yet when I look at the E5 install manual, there is no mention of connecting the EFD to the audio panel (for callouts). It gets mentioned in the Pro install manual though.  So there is still need for an intervention behind the instrument panel when you wish to make the upgrade.

That brings me to the following; I think Aspen is really missing the ball by not including the callouts in EVERY installation that gets done. For me, as an air traffic controller, this is a safety issue. A reminder when approaching selected level or when deviating from the selected level can avoid a level bust or even worse, an airmiss.  It is not bells and whistles; it is a safety tool !  Don’t forget that a lot of Mooneys have no altitude preselect in their autopilot system.

@Andy Smith, I don’t know how many strings you can pull at Aspen but I’d consider you a hero should you be able to put this on the agenda ;-)

I think the Aspen reps DO listen to suggestions made on the forums.  I also can’t fault them for the upgrade paths presented. The $5.5k upgrade for the max is a little rich but the $11k for a max 2k upgrade (from a single pro) with all the unlocks seems fair. Even the E5 to pro unlock for 5k isn’t too bad.  My guess is they would allow an E5 owner to use the 2k max upgrade package as well.

Thank you for the feed back. There are some alerts that are available from the E5 such as altitude and airspeed but they are not voice call outs. They are pizzo alarm or sonalert "beep". The other alarms that are part of the MAX unit such as timers, minimums, and terrain are not a function of the E5. Meaning that there is no way to set a minimum on the E5 or SV in not an option on the E5 for terrain or obstacle alerts. I can not be for certain, but this may have to do with certification as well. The E5 being an EFI rather than an EFD. I will have to see if engineering can comment on that. With the MAX system comes more capability, one of which is voice callouts.

I'd like to see the webinar later, also.  As a dual screen aspen owner, my suggestion would be a larger screen and on-screen engine monitor much like the G3X options.  I would love to see a larger Aspen screen that could be swapped with 2 current panels.

Andy - for those of us who were early Aspen owners and upgraded to Max units at the lower cost, what would it cost to purchase the EBB? I didn’t hear any mention of the EBB being included for 2000 owners who upgraded to Max units.
