Need Help Diagnosing Aspen Intermittent AHRS Failure
Andy Smith replied to drb930's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Dave, Please take your aircraft to a Dealer for troubleshooting. This needs to be done. Until then, I can not help you. At the dealer level you can get a proper diagnosis the problem. This is our policy. Our Field Service Engineers were able to help you with some basic checks, but now needs to go to a dealer. Thank you for the understanding. If you need help finding a dealer in your area, I will be happy to help. -Andy Smith andy.smith@aspenavionics.com Inside Sales Manager (863) 397-4422 -
Need Help Diagnosing Aspen Intermittent AHRS Failure
Andy Smith replied to drb930's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Dave, Thank you for reaching out to me directly. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. As mentioned in my email, it is best to have an Authorized Dealer take a look at the system and diagnose the problem. We will be able to go from there. -Andy Smith andy.smith@aspenavionics.com Inside Sales Manager (863) 397-4422 -
I have said several times that our primary focus will remain on GA. You may have misinterpreted the comment. Read it again, with reference and in context to previous comments such as "Our primary focus will still to continue to be in the GA market." and "With a more diversified portfolio of knowledge, engineering, certification and manufacturing we are poised to change the landscape of GA...… AGAIN." The comment "I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that we are not going anywhere within GA." means we are staying in the market, happy to be here, looking forward to the future within the GA space, proud to be part of GA.... etc.
-
There will more details to come, I am sure you can appreciate and understand that they need to be controlled for the time being. Although some vagueness can lead to apprehension, I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that we are not going anywhere and will continue to be part of the GA market. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Some people get it and some people don't. This move was not done out of necessity, but rather done to make the company stronger. We have broadened our reach and resources all the while maintaining the integrity of Aspen as a company. With a more diversified portfolio of knowledge, engineering, certification and manufacturing we are poised to change the landscape of GA...… AGAIN.

I can understand your apprehension, however this will not be the case. Without going into to much detail, Aspen will be taking a lead role in this organization handling many of the day to day transactions including engineering, and manufacturing. This is going to lead to greater resources and a more robust product line. Time will always tell, but be assured this is a good thing for all, including you as a customer.

All, Just want to take a moment to comment on the great news for Aspen Avionics. As you are aware from the recent press coverage that we have agreed in principle to become part of a larger group of like-minded aerospace companies. To be clear, Aspen IS the centerpiece of the AIRO Group with our established brand offering much of the manufacturing, supply chain and technical expertise. What that means to you and the GA community is that we will have more resources to develop, engineer and deliver more avionics options to give you more choices when it comes to making your purchasing decision.Simply put we will be a stronger organization and you as the customer will benefit. If you have any other questions, please reach out to me directly and I will be happy to address them. Andy.smith@aspenavionics.com

All, Below is the customer MEMO that you all should have received. We solved this problem months ago with the 2.10.2 software. We did issue a "mandatory" SW bulletin at that time, but as some of you know... "mandatory" is relative to SW on Part 91 aircraft. This AD will require you to so now. We woke up to this AD the same as you all did. Please excuse the delay on getting any data up on our website. "Today, the FAA issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2020-16-08 effective August 17, 2020, regarding a potential reset event of Aspen Avionics' MAX series displays.""Be advised, the FAA approved software v2.10.2 in March 2020 addressing the infrequent but potential reset issue of Evolution MAX series displays and we have successfully implemented this software change for affected customers. These design changes are defined in the 900-00003-001, Revision CC, EFD1000, and EFD500 Software Version 2.X installation manual, dated March 2020. Aspen Service Bulletin 2020-01 describes the v2.10.2 software update procedures.""This AD only applies to Evolution 2000 MAX and Evolution 2500 MAX systems with software v2.10 or v2.10.1 AND if any of the required backup instruments (ASI, ATT, ALT) have been removed. This AD is not applicable to MAX displays that have been updated to software v2.10.2 or any legacy Aspen Avionics displays."Any other questions, please contact your dealer or email me directly at andy.smith@aspenavionics.com

Thank you for the feed back. There are some alerts that are available from the E5 such as altitude and airspeed but they are not voice call outs. They are pizzo alarm or sonalert "beep". The other alarms that are part of the MAX unit such as timers, minimums, and terrain are not a function of the E5. Meaning that there is no way to set a minimum on the E5 or SV in not an option on the E5 for terrain or obstacle alerts. I can not be for certain, but this may have to do with certification as well. The E5 being an EFI rather than an EFD. I will have to see if engineering can comment on that. With the MAX system comes more capability, one of which is voice callouts.

I wish I had more control of the graphics they give me to use. Enjoy the presentation.

Yes, the Webinar will be recorded, and will be posted later for those who can not attend.

All, I do not know the specifics of the fix. I do know that it was very specific to a point that we were able to isolate it. At the time of release we had about 10,000 hours running the SW without a failure (multiple units running 24 hours a day). I am sorry I do not have any more details.

Aspen Avionics Operator Advisory
Andy Smith replied to Andy Smith's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
All, The software that addresses the infrequent but potential reset issue of Evolution MAX series displays was released late last week and is available through your local dealers. As mentioned in the Operator Advisory, if you have not experienced a reboot, the likelihood that you do is minimal. However, the software upgrade to 2.10.2 is considered MANDATORY and should be done before operating your aircraft outside the guidance of the issued Operator Advisory. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us or to your dealer directly. Thank you again for the patience through this all. -

Yes, it would fit based on this picture. The ATT and DG are aligned with each other and both at 3-1/8" instruments. I do not see any reason why you would have a problem. The plastic overlay will have to be modified, but a straight edge, a steady hand and a soldering iron works extremely well in doing that.
