Hi all,

I am closing on a Rocket next week and then it is going strait into paint and will be down for a month.  It currently has a very new and low time full feathering propeller on it.  about 80 hours total time (will be about 90 -100 when it goes into paint).

My partner and I are thinking about going to an MT 4 blade propeller.  We are thinking that we call sell this young prop to help fund it.  The question is can we find someone who needs a new prop and how much is this prop worth with only 100 hours on it.   I was told by MT that the current prop and hub cost around 24k new, but I don't know if this is accurate.

Anyone wanting/needing a very low time prop ?

Mr. Tatious,

We have a prop guy and a Rocket owner in one person...

The four blade MT on a Rocket sounds Like fear during the T/O roll... Erik’s plane got video’d at an MS fly-in a few years back...

See if @Cody Stallings has any input for selling your existing prop... (our prop guy)

Best regards,

I'm not hundred percent sure on this, but I think the prop on the Rocket is the same as on the 340, since that's where its taken off from. if that is the case, you'll have way more luck trying to sell it on beechtalk since there are quite a large amount of users there, and a lot of cessna owners.

It will be a tuff sell on beechTalk. Barons use a C511 an C512 Propeller.

I would go to the Twin Cessna Sites.

They use the C504, C505, C515 an the hated C528 (Oil Filled) Propellers.

You have a C505 to sell.

Just a heads up on MT.  They do small discounts at OSH.  I ordered one at OSH several years ago.  It was delivered  just after Christmas.  I do like the propeller.  Be sure and get the nickel steel leading edges.

I’d ask for an opinion from @cujet on maintenance costs before settling on the MT.  @aviatoreb has one on his Rocket. The w&b advantages and prop clearance are certainly desirable, but I’ve heard that MTs can be expensive to own.

Do you know which conversion number yours is? There are ADs with different intervals for the exhaust depending on which exhaust you have (I wouldn’t let that stop me from purchasing, just important to know). Another couple things are that mine didn’t have the optional 19lbs of lead at the rear of the empennage or the 3200lb max gross STC. I had both of those done. I’ve learned in aviation that if there’s a modification to a specific airframe that you have, that you’d best get it when it’s available. STCs get sold and buried and companies restructure and parts become unavailable.

Also, get it painted in Imron. My m20f was painted in Imron in 1994 over 2200 hours ago. This is what it looks like today. (On the left) It looks like it could’ve been painted last week.

I use MT props on our experimental Extra 300L aircraft. Including a very cool custom built 4 blade unit.

However, they are wood, subject to trailing edge damage and time consuming/exceedingly expensive to repair. Just a tap with a tow-bar on the trailing edge will scrap a blade. Same goes for a kicked up rock or debris. What would cause a ding on an aluminum blade will scrap an MT blade.

While there may be online dispute as to performance loss with an MT, due to the thick blade shape, there is no question in my mind. Replacement with just about anything else yields an increase in cruise speed.
