Anyone have the specs of the rollers? Are they available anywhere? Mooney is extremely proud of them at 61$ each! Lasar at 10$ each is still proud of them but less so than Mooney...

FYI.......I have not followed through on replacing the rollers yet.  On my list though as I work through my interior replacement [finishing up soon, I hope!].  With that said, I will probably order a few that need replacing from LASAR.  I love Mooney in Kerrville, but.................

As measured on the edge of the roller.  (The worn center was considerably smaller.)

That's a 1/4" drill through the center.2 Seat Roller 74 C.jpg

Nicely done Mooneymite! Thank you. Looks like 5/8 W x 7/8 D x ¼ center.

Very close.  Actually .585" wide and .880" diameter.

I've ordered some delrin rod and will try to make some replacement wheels for myself.

It comes 0.875 in diameter and I also saw on ebay 7/8. Which one did you order?Unless they are calling the 0.875" 7/8?

Peter, do the math:  7/8 = 0.875. That would probably be close enough.

Finding micarta round stock, though, may be a challenge; I've not used any at work since before the turn of the century . . . .

That rod that supports the ADF antenna under the belly... phenolic!!!  :)

Got a user supplied part and met a great machinist at work one day.

Best regards,

Even though I've never heard of micarta before, I found it on the Internet in about .1 sec:

:D

So is micarta harder than Acetal Copolymer?

Are they still functional?

Yes.  The chronos and resets all work like they should.  Took a lot of years of upgrading and trading on Ebay to complete my collection.  My son will probably sell them for $5 bucks a piece some day :)

The panel clocks were the one item the pilot had to sign for because of their value/precision and probably because they would disappear.  If shot down they were to remove the clock.  I am sure that was a priority....or not.

For a good feeling of how hard phenolic resin can be...

Formica countertops are a surface based on layers of brown kraft paper soaked in phenolic resin.  Pretty impact resistant until it chips...

Another example of phenolic resin in ordinary life...  all the old black plastic handles on cookware were phenolic resin...

The trade name used often was Bakelite.  It belonged to Union Carbide.

What made it so versatile... it was a thermoset resin.  Made by filling liquid into a mold, then polymerizing...  the finished product couldn't melt...

ordinary PP thoughts, not a polymer scientist.

I have an A13 A1 in my plane now. The finest clock ever made. I took it apart cleaned and reassembled it. It was hard to find all the specified lubricants. The barrel grease ended up crossing to aero shell 6.

That clock was the most complicated mechanical assembly I ever put together.

Does Delrin rod come predrilled I wonder? I haven't seen it.

I saw a mini drill press from harbor freight that might make for a great hangar experiment...

Getting it wrong though, could leave your seat a bit wobbly...?

If you value your time at more than $0.25/hr. the $10 rollers are a bargain.  These have no quality control, no PMA #, and no assurance that they are the correct size.

Purely an exercise in "can I make a roller".

A true CB knows that one's time is not considered in what a part costs. Knowing "I can make a roller" is worth a lot.
