That's what I'm trying to figure out. One place told me I didn't even need the external GPS antenna if I didn't care about track. So hook to power, ground pitot and static. It seems like an hour or two. What an I missing? Is there calibration, etc?

Just picked mine up from the avionics shop a couple days ago.  $2900 total.  Tax, install, G5, fiddled with my old kx170b, updated my gns430 and even wired my JPI830 up to my gps.

Just got an estimate from a local avionics shop for a G5 install. They're estimating 15-20 hour work. So about $2500 in labor for a total of about $5000. Does that sound common?

For better or worse that's what it cost me.

Even with running new power/ground and hooking up to GPS source it should be no more than 8 hrs labor; so maybe $6-800 should be a reasonable amount of time.

Don't know where you are located, but I asked our guy at Spencer's (Puyallup, WA, KPLU) and he said about 2 - 4 hours to install.  I'm sure it is more if you need another GPS antenna too.
