Hedge Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 My 66E is also a center mount. And I am interested in helping get this refined. Don, whatever you need I will try and help, but I am a civil engineer and not a mechanical. I can build a wetland, stream, put in site utilities, but I don't know the difference between a drill and a drill press. (well I do know that, but you get the point.) Mark Quote
DonMuncy Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 I think the design of the mount and arm is OK, but still glad to have comments or criticism. The part I am less sure of is the size and shape of the shade itself. I have seen pictures of Rosens, and they seem too large. The ones on my LASARs is awfully good. A couple of considerations are how they may interfere with things like the compass, and how well they get out of the way when swung up. For instance interference with the air vents. I don't know of a way to figure these out without fitting in a C or E and seeing. Letting owners hold up cardboard or the like of various sizes might give some clue. That is why I posted the distance from the center post to the outer edge. Incidentally, that distance is hard to reduce much at all, as the "overlap" of the two parts of the extension arm needs to be large enough to furnish support. and in order to reach the side window, the extended arm has a minimum length. Marauder Posted April 16, 2016 Report Posted April 16, 2016 Don - my apologies for taking so long to post these pictures. Here is what I have installed in my plane. Not sure if they are factory or aftermarket. My interest in replacing the plexi is that they seem to have gotten hazy over the years. Any ideas? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

I think Yetti's 1975 interior is actually done up in avocado. I have the more stately, crushed deep orange topped off with the manure brown seat trim. 1 Quote

carusoam Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 That is a good idea to send to Craig. The quote function is helpful for the reference. It doesn't get much better to copy all the photos as well... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

However note that your computer will only download the image once and then cache it on your system. So future times that you see the photo it should not require another download (unless you have your browser setup to not cache things). 1 Quote
Raptor05121 Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 Well hoping more along the lines the guys that click "quote" can backspace and remove the images if they're replying to just text. Just my nitpicking, sorry. Quote
RLCarter Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) I agree, the quoting on quotes with or with out pictures can go on for ever, to only see a one or two word reply at the end. Edited May 3, 2016 by RLCarter Quote
DonMuncy Posted June 15, 2016 Author Report Posted June 15, 2016 I finally got my 3rd iteration visor built. I think it is an improvement over my earlier ones, as there is more "friction area" than the ball joints, so they move easier without being too loose. As always, glad to share ideas on design, materials, etc., and glad to have comments and suggestions. Quote
RLCarter Posted June 15, 2016 Report Posted June 15, 2016 are you machining the pivot joints or do you have a source for them? Quote
DonMuncy Posted June 15, 2016 Author Report Posted June 15, 2016 I still don't have a mill. I sourced them out to a Chinese outfit. I found several places that would do them, but most of them required 3D data, and all I had was my own drawings. One place finally agreed to convert my drawings to 3D and manufacture some for me. RLCarter Posted June 15, 2016 Report Posted June 15, 2016 I've used my lathe for simple milling by mounting a small 2 axis vise vertically on the cross slide, If you need 2D to 3D I can draw from what you have. Quote
N601RX Posted June 15, 2016 Report Posted June 15, 2016 Don, I would be happy to make any 3D models you need. I also have a 3D printer and can print Prototype parts if you need something to "Lay your Hands on" before machining parts. For clamping force consider some of these under the nut to provide the clamping force. They can be stacked if needed to get the desired load. They will maintain a constant load over time much better than just a bolt/nut. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-disc-springs/=12v3j66 Quote

kris_adams Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Hi Don, do you think these will be available relatively soon? My pilot visor cracked about a month ago and I'm looking for options. Thanks! Quote
