Hello all.

So I have been researching Mooneys pretty regularly for the past 6 months or so in preparation of purchasing one early next year. For the type of flying I do and considering it will most often only be carrying my significant other and myself plus a few bags, am leaning towards a "C" or "E" model. I am also looking to complete my IR in the plane also.

Now, here is the question. For all the research I have done the one thing I have not done is actually sit in one, to see how I fit in it and how it fits with me, (Truly sad considering I work 2 jobs at KHWD, so I am surrounded by airplanes literally 24/7 :)

Are their any Mooney owners based at KHWD on this site that would mind letting me sit in their plane for a few minutes to see how well it will work for me? I am sure it won't be an issue since I am only 5'7 and HWP, but I definitely want to try on the shoe before investing in a pair :)

Thank you in advance,

Mike B

I had to google HWP.   :D   anyway, some people have mentioned issues reaching the rudder pedals.  You may want to double check that when you get a chance to sit in one.

5 10 and dont have any problems with the short body Mooney. If I want to be in the NASCAR driving postion I move all the way up For the 24HRS LeMans I put the seat back a bit. When I'm all the way forward its still comfortable and you have decent rear seat room. for just 2 the short body would be just fine and I must admit it would be nice to have the extra 20HP of the E

I'm 5'6" and own a Mooney M20C. No problem reaching the pedals for me. I keep it one notch back. For me, the C has plenty of room.

Is there a difference in front seat leg room between the C/E vs the F/J?  I think most of the difference is in the back seat leg room.

Bob

I have significantly more leg room in the front of my J than I had in my D. In the D I didn't even have an inch to spare for my knees with the seat all the way back. In my J I can fly with the seat one notch forward from the back. I'm 6'5".

Good to know.  Thanks.

The C make an economical first Mooney.

Find one with a modernish IP to meet your IFR training requirements.

The E makes for a great last Mooney.

You will upgrade the whole thing over time.

Some of this is based on my experience and the rest is observing photos posted in Bob's collection.

I asked Siri about hwp... She told me about a triple integral, indicating a volume of a sphere.

Sphere or proportional, Either or...

There isn't a human being that doesn't fit in a Mooney if he wants to fly fast, economically.

Just remember.... Later on, children have a tendency to grow a set of legs.

Exciting times ahead,

Thanks everybody. I am feeling pretty good about my up and coming Mooney purchase :)

PS: HWP = "Height, weight, proportionate" :)  Just another way of saying a regular sized guy.

 Best to all,

Hello all

Yes, I am still in KHWD. I work at a Flight Dispatcher @ Ameriflight and a second job at the Jetcenter so I pretty much have my mail delivered here during the week :)

If anyone happens to stop by..taxi up to the Ameriflight ramp. I would love to take a seat in one to check it out, and I am sure a lunch could be arranged for your trouble.

 Best to all
