Just picked up my plane , had my I F R cert. completed, cost is up to $510.00. That seems quite high what are others paying??

Last time I had mine done, the Avionics shop only had one question.  Does it have the 201 windshield?  $250 no, $500 yes.  All about access.

If you are in Southern California I highly recommend Randy ( www.pitotstaticguys.com ). He travels to you for free and his flat fee is $225. My static system was in bad shape and he did all repairs for a very reasonable price.

They have never found a problem in my plane other than a leaky alternate static switch even with replacing the O Rings it was still $300.  All the shops around here are $250 or $275

I questioned the shop and was told the cost was higher since I had 2 altimeters and transponders. Should be a volume discount

Yep..Great guy..

Is he still grumpy? I loved the work he did on my STEC 60-2 but when I spoke to him about the Aspen/GTN upgrade he was one miserable human being to deal with. I'm sure he has to do with what is going on at Red Eagle, but he lost me on that deal.

He puts on a good act his rudeness for the lack of a better word is trait once you get to know him he's really a good guy. Always busting someone's balls he can take as well. I actually do his tax work and since I've gotten to know him if he d/n bust your nuts then he d/n like you. I was taken aback when I first was around him and I blasted him back then we get along great. I know of a lot of pilots either love or hate the guy. He's gone out of his way to help me yrs ago which I tend to remember.. He does come across as grumpy though. I have a couple of friends who also went elsewhere similar to your situation with your Aspen. His wife puts up with him go figure!

Your correct about Red eagle since they have become an L-39 shop. Since Mark left all the expertise went with him. He's head of avionics at Hawker on the field now..

Yeah, I never understood why a car wash guy wanted to own an avionics shop. ;) Oh, wait... It's no longer that, it's a L-39 hangar. Where is he keeping the MIG-29s? I remember when he was having problems getting them certified.

Just had mine done last month for $160 (same as two years ago) at Quality Avionics, Grove City, Pa 29D

The airport is within walking distance of the Grove City Outlets and Gary will do it while you're shopping if scheduling works out.

I think he has them down state but I'm not sure he has a couple over by Atlantic, he usually terrorizes the area on Sunday mornings. He has a waiver to run over 152 s in the pattern. I feel something or someone innocent will get in trouble with that moron cranking along at 400 with someone in the pattern at 50. Yikes

If I remember correctly, didn't he get into trouble buzzing his girlfriend's house in the L-39?

Slightly off-topic, but I just IFR certified myself for $140 and 12 gallons. Did a PAR approach into Lawson, a few ugly laps around the hold, then a VOR-A with circle to land [ATC said go as low as we wanted, just don't let the wheels touch, so I leveled off at the end of the runway and went missed], and back here for an ILS. Logged 1.9, with 1.5 simulated. Fun times! Only one [night] landing.

I need to do more of this during the day, learn the lay of the land.
