How many projects do you have "in process"

A discussion in another thread got me thinking about all the stuff I have on my and I wondered how many others have "excess" projects.

Just sticking to vehicles that have "needs" I have the following taking up my to do list:

1) '67 M20F - the list of wants is long, my primary goal this year is to update the panel, rebuild the nose gear and reupholster the seats.

2) '02 Porsche Boxster S - Needs a new upgraded top. I found out the hard way that plastic windows don't flex well below ~50df...

3) '73 Triumph Daytona - (current airport runabout) always needs something as parts tend to vibrate off anytime it's run for more than 5 minutes. Exhaust needs to be replaced, forks need to be rebuilt and ignition has a short.

4) '88 Merc 560SL - newest addition to the orphanage should arrive around New Years. 1 owner, low mileage but only driven 2000mils in the last 5 years...it's going to have issues.

5) '71 Series III E-type V12 2+2. 41Kmiles This was the car my father traded his roadster for when he found out mom was pregnant with me (screw minivans). Has not run since I stole the keys when I was in high school back in 89 or 90. It needs everything...

6) '98 Lex GS400 My DD with 218K it has been the most reliable steed I have ever owned, but it's coming up on a timing belt change and could use new motor and tranny mounts. It also needs new lock actuators for the doors.

I could go into non-auto related stuff, but that would be a novella...

I think I need to lighten the load here, but parting ways is hard...

My wife is very understanding, but then, I always ensure that her needs take top priority! Which may be part of the reason why my list is growing...

So ring in folks! Is this normal for some of you? Do I seem insane? should I just liquidate it all, buy a Honda and join a flying club??

I have 2 snow blowers, 3 chain saws, 2 Stihl backpack blowers and a 15hp generator that all need new carbs or carb jets from E10 contamination. Yes...I once owned a 944Turbo, but this is the unintended consequence of marriage. You check your "man card" at the door. :) :) :) Now, if I were you, I trade a couple of those cool, retirement-grade goodies for a vintage Decathalon :) :) :)

Mine in rough order of priority:

 

My J needs an engine overhaul... but first I need to finish disassembling my salvage engine to open up the engine stand.  Some of those accessories will get sent out for inspection/re-use before I get my flying engine off the plane.  I need to remove the salvage center console and reinstall in my J so I can delete the throttle quadrant too.

 

Vehicle related:

1988 BMW M6... need to finish a few nagging items on the list and get it on the market and hopefully sold quickly

1999 BMW K1200RS... on the market and hope it eventually sells.  Needs nothing except a new owner!

2004 BMW 330i ZHP daily driver... have an induction leak (suspected) with no time to troubleshoot yet.  Need to fix leaky tire

 

House related:

finish re-organizing/sorting/trashing "stuff" in the basement.

plan & acquire furniture for downstairs bar/living space

install provisions for TV into basement

Engage an architect/designer to develop a master plan for the backyard, and then execute it when the weather gets warm

 

Garage related:

finish "putting everything away" in my overhauled garage so that I have functional workspaces.  I've worked hard in there over the last year, including getting heat & A/C installed so I can use it year-round in comfort.  

route data/tv lines to the garage for TV viewing inside and outside of the garage (goes along with the backyard project)

 

Salvage J:

finish processing engine as noted above.  

finish stripping the cabin section of all systems since it is now home in the garage.  Then use it for some new product development ideas that will hopefully be of interest to many here.  

 

Post-overhaul J:

rebuild my salvage seats and install in my J, especially the individually removable rear buckets.  First I want to scavenge some headrests that I can add to the seats...

install the better overhead ventilation system from the salvage J...

 

Misc.

convert salvage Jacobs radial engine into a backyard table!

invent a time machine, or win the lottery.

You people are crazy....CRAZY AWESOME! 944's are for girls...The twin turbo 300HP 944 was/is awesome!...NOT a girly ride...and nurse Christina drove one with satisfaction oozing from her pores. (obscure music reference there).

Have fun projecting everyone. I just need to change brake fluid and plugs in my Cayman S. I ride a Honda ST1300. Oil, filter and go...

Lee, I'm trying to work down to just a Mooney now...most of the clutter came before the Mooney and now just gets in the way. I'll concede all those toys are not compatible with a job and a wife...just one of those, maybe.

 4 MGAs. A 1962 roadster 95% done, driveable but they are never done till they are sold. A 58 coupe 80% done. A 57 Mazda RX7 powered roadster done 25 years ago and needs work. A 1960 roadster partially dissasembled by the PO. Bought it in 92 and will restore it after retired. Closing on a fixer-upper house in Queen Creek Az. I will fix it up while living in it while building the house on Pegasus Airpark. A 1980 Suzuki GS1100L that I ride and a Kawasaki 750LTD that my wife rides. Both bikes need periodic maintainence. Just finished putting a new crank in the GS and rode it for the first time in 18 months. Once the house is built I will sell the fixer-upper to finance the hanger, pool, pool house and 305Rocket. Lots of BIG projects ahead of me in retirement! Should have the business sold by the first of the year and out a month later. Got too much to do. I'll have to retire to have the time to get it all done.

 All that and a lot of Scuba diving and golfing to catch up on.

Maybe we should list major projects completed.  We had four kids.  Paid for two Penn State grads, one also from Princeton and one Boston College education.  They have no school debt and neither do I.  The major accomplishments of my life are done and I still own a Mooney!

Too many to list here and far more than I truly expect to get too.... but that is a part of life that makes it all worth while I guess....
