M20E 10.2 GPH ROP 150 KIAS ,  S35 14.3 GPH ROP 160 KIAS,   I intentionally do not calculate my operating costs , as I might not fly anymore if I did...

1977 perfectly rigged no step M20j 8000ft 9.2gph lop 155kts.

4000ft 10gph 15lop 155kts

Never run ROP but if in a big hurry I will run peak egt at 4000 full throttle, subject to keeping heads under 380. 158kts

'66 M20E (with 201 mods and Powerflow Exhaust) 158K @ 75%. 10.5-11.0 ROP)

costs on 50 hours flown in 2012: $60/hour fuel and oil. 

 

+ $10,700 fixed for insurance ($885), hanger ($2020), annual ($1250), and maintenance which includes what hopefully are some non recurring, 1st year shakedown stuff, new alternator, repairs to stormscope and KS80 now gone, new Garmin 696, PPI, Empennage AD,...

 

Does not include $1500 subscriptions for GTN 750 and GPS 696.

1968 M20C, 2600TT, 675 SMOH, (my 14th airplane) wing leveler no a/p, original panel layout, King radios, IFR certified Garmin GPS, JPI engine monitor and fuel flow, flies true normally between 6-8K, 23/24, 8.5 GPH, 135TAS.  Very good paint and interior. 102 miles round trip distance to the airport (a real pita). Since I purchased it 2.5 years ago I overhauled 2 cylinders, installed the JPI instruments and replaced the starter and battery.  $237/mo hangar, $830 annual insurance premium, $250 property tax, IFR and XM subscriptions and $1200 annuals.  Lots of money for flying less than 100hrs/yr.  Local fuel $5.75/gl  Probably will be on the market after I go cross country to the west coast after Oshkosh.  What will I do next: maybe a Cub for local enjoyment...maybe.

I know I'm ROP because I pull the red lever back until EGT peaks, then push it forward.

1970 M20C, 140 knots, 9 gph block fuel burn. Yellow arc = 175 mph.

I pulled up the actual JPI data from last Friday. 8000', -2 OAT, 22.5", 2550 rpm, 73% HP, 11.2 gph (100 ROP. TAS 158k)

A 1990 Mooney Bravo at 200knots at about $1.2/nm if flown about 150 hours per year not including capital costs. With fuel at 6 bucks, about twice the cost of fuel seems to be a good number for a single, any single and 3 times for any twin.

'66 M20E: Here's the Aspen screen from a HKY/LYH flight @ 7000' a week ago. 21.5/2350, 9.5 gph ROP, 67% HP, tas 171 mph = 149 k, 3 on board, pretty close to gross.

 

(Because the Scimitar Top Prop is red line from 2350-2550 for MP > 24, I am in the habit of running at 2350 downwind and 2550 with a head wind even when I am too high to pull 24".)

I have a lot more than your $70k in my '66E but who knows, it is a buyer market... sounds like a price for a past mid-time engine with a near original panel.

 

If your typical mission is 1 or 2 souls on board you can near J performance and have enough dough for some modern avionics.

I don't think you gonna find one for 70k. Move up to 85k and now there will be several more options available.?

If I was gonna sell my 77 j with garmin 650, gpss, jpi 830, new window, recent seal and a bunch of other items it would be 88k. But not currently for sale.

Wow quite a bit of m20Es. I was hoping to see some M20Js. I've been looking at what could so 160KTAS. With at least AP and 430W. In the 70k range. any thoughts?

 

I don't think you'll find a decent J with that sort of equipment. You can find an E or an F that, with speed mods, will outperform an early "J" model. And you can get one that's already tricked out for < $70k pretty easily. While an approach-coupled GPS would be nice, I'm content with my wing-leveler and being focused on instrument approaches. You'll find that your mind works incredibly well when you're hand-flying an ILS approach down to minimums.

Mooney prices are flat.

financing couldn't get any cheaper, unless the bank of dad is open.

Technology is at an all time high.

Well cared for Mooneys have a history of flying for 50 years.

Other than the price of fuel, it is a good time to buy a plane, boat or house...

2008 Acclaim Type S, always flown at 16,000' or higher. At 50ROP I get 215KTAS burning 17gph. At 50LOP I get 205KTAS at 14gph. I fly LOP 99% of the time.

 

Like others have said, I know my hourly costs but don't care to think about them. I love flying the Acclaim and I'm grateful that I can afford it.
