shawnd Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Nice. Which shop is this? Will have to add this to the wish list. Quote

Maxwells - they own the STC now and as far as I know aren't yet making installation available to others - which is a bigger deal to our European and Australian friends. But that could change any time. Quote

Don Maxwell has the Jose Monroy STC for long range tanks: https://www.donmaxwell.com/ Jose did the tanks on a Bravo I owned back in 1997. Back then it was around $7000 installed. Best upgrade on a Mooney in my opinion - gives you a lot of flexibility. 2 Quote

It's a bit difficult to use, but the FAA database says: STC Number : SA1913SO Description: Auxiliary fuel cells STC Holder: KMAX Aero LLC I have not heard of KMAX, but it sounds like a Maxwell derivative. IvanP Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 I have this mod on my Bravo, but do not find it particularly useful (came with the plane). With full fuel (118 gal), I would be at max GW with me as the only occupant of the plane with no allowance for luggage and pushing the forward CG limit. I know, I should lose some weight :). While full tanks would give me apmple fuel reserve, it would also exceed my bladder capacity (there are some things I just refuse to do in my Mooney unless absolutely necessary and using LittleJohn or equivalent is one of them). My typical mission is 2 adults with 30-50 lbs of baggage, leaving me with about 85 galons of fuel to stay within the W/B limits. So far, I have not had the opportunty to take advantage of the additional fuel capacity on this plane, but I have only had it for little of 1 year. However, folks with different mission profiles and larger bladders may find it worth the money. Quote

IvanP Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Yes, I love the turbo. It was the main reason I got the Bravo. Quote

I can carry 2 people with full fuel. Or me and a lot of luggage. Flexibility 2 Quote
IvanP Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 You are probably right. But either way, I run out of bladder capacity before I run out of fuel even in the thirsty Bravo. The days when I was able and willing to do 5+ hour legs are history. Now it is 3-4 hours max. The joys of getting old. Quote
jetdriven Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 You can pee in a bottle, but you can’t run a plane on air. They’ve tried. 1 Quote
BlueSky247 Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Wish they could reseal the regular tanks while they are at it. And install speed brakes… Quote

M20F Posted August 10 Author Report Posted August 10 As the original poster I want to make clear that this STC does not come with Jose’s “relief tube”. Hope Jose is doing well and miss his posts. 1 Quote
IvanP Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 (edited) I bet they can do it so long as you are willing to part with appropriate number of AMUs at the end. The magic power of money keeps our planes airborne and airworthy, unless you need some parts made of unobtainium, like the dreaded tubo V-band clamp for Bravos. Edited August 10 by IvanP Quote

A kit that a 3rd party installs however requires PMA approval which they don’t have yet. 1 Quote
McMooney Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 really wish it wasn't so damn expensive, planning on installing these in the next 2 years. Quote

MikeOH Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Until I can find a way to upgrade my 3.5 hour bladder, no need for a 9 hour aircraft bladder! 2 Quote
Danb Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 It was the first and best modification I did to my Bravo in 2006,:my Bravo had useful load around 1010 me not being a big guy along with wife we flew numerous 1000+ mile trips which I sorely miss in the Acclaim. The Acclaim has about 140* less useful load bummer, why ? Quote
M20F-1968 Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 I have a highly modified M20F which is now essentially a J. It has speed brakes and carries 90 gallons of fuel due to the Monroy tanks. It range is over 1200 miles, with reserves, and longer LOP. It allows longer range, and allows you to purchase more cheap fuel when available. I burn 11 gallons per hour at 160-175 kys depending upon altitude due to a Rayay Turbonormalizer. The combination of the long-range tanks and turbonormalizer turns the F model into an airplane that is more capable than the J and challenges the 231. John Breda 2 Quote
Fritz1 Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 thought about it when I bought the Bravo, gives you an option, the Bravo topped off to the fuel cap O-rings has 102 gal usable, I keep the tanks full, so carrying more than one passenger I have to de-fuel, with long range tanks even more so, UL with TKS tank full and rear seats out is about 990lb, figured I was not going across the Atlantic so I passed on the long range tanks, very useful though for somebody who goes strictly by themselves in the Bravo Quote
Pinecone Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Solution for bladder range. Better than a bottle as it gels the liquid, so no spills and it also deodorizes. https://www.amazon.com/TravelJohn-66892-18-Pack-Disposable-Urinals/dp/B00C6U6ULK/ref=asc_df_B00C6U6ULK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9424209399360381790&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9051570&hvtargid=pla-2281435181418&psc=1&mcid=1ced38acf394329e8b8ec099650f7c9a&hvocijid=9424209399360381790-B00C6U6ULK-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1 1 Quote
