Rob 201MSE Posted July 30, 2021 Report Posted July 30, 2021 I am wondering if anyone on this forum has replaced their wingtips with Aveo Engineering’s aftermarket tips? If so what approval avenue did you use for the install, 337? Quote
KSMooniac Posted July 30, 2021 Report Posted July 30, 2021 I just had these installed and it's a bit nebulous. They're certified by EASA and determined to be a minor mod, so it's just a logbook entry according to them. FAA recognizes them by reciprocity. I don't disagree, and am fine with that position. Your IA may disagree. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk Quote

Rob 201MSE Posted August 5, 2021 Author Report Posted August 5, 2021 Thanks for the "tips" gentlemen! Much appreciated. Quote
231MJ Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 They do look cool. Is there a performance benefit? Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 They do look cool. Is there a performance benefit? In my case, yes, but YMMV. Mine were added at the same time as deleting cat whiskers (and re-skinning that portion of the vertical) and rigging adjustments of the flaps. I'm 2-4 knots faster, but I would not credit the tips for most of that, except as a place to hide new nav antennas as part of my drag reduction plan. Edit to add I had no factory tips on my early J... Just the blunt end like the vintage Mooneys. If I had factory tips, I'd still hide antennas but just upgrade to LED lights.Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk Quote
WaynePierce Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 They look very similar to the wingtips I currently have only with the added led's built in. I bet they are more than a couple of hundred dollars each... Quote
OR75 Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 just a pair of strobes can get to 1amu , anyone know how much the whole wingtip cost ? Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 just a pair of strobes can get to 1amu , anyone know how much the whole wingtip cost ? $2500 ish in the box, not including installation. Relative bargain these days IMO. Of course I previously sprung for LED lights... Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk Quote

KSMooniac Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 Yeah, that too, but I've got paint in my future any way so I don't count that. Just like I never add up costs for any of this hobby! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 I should mention they're supposedly working on a version to bolt on to the vintage no-tip wing. I told them they'll sell 10x of those, so if you're interested, let them know! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk Quote
OR75 Posted August 6, 2021 Report Posted August 6, 2021 Wonder what the performance benefit really is makes the plane look sexier but on the other hand more concern for clearance getting in and out a hangar Quote
Aerodon Posted December 5, 2021 Report Posted December 5, 2021 I'm joining the Aveo club too. I can't say I am a fan of the way Mooney riveted the original wingtips on, but we followed the same pattern and when its repainted it will look fine. I hope the LED's do last 10,000 hours, because the whole wingtip will have to be removed to replace the lights. The joggle in the fibreglass was a bit short, we had to file away the gel coat another 1/8" to match the training edge of the wing. While we were at it, we cleaned up the wingtip rib and painted it white. The aileron is off for fitting of the Encore weights and balancing. The quality is excellent, the overall fit is good, easy compared with some of the other fibreglass wingtips I have fitted to Cessnas and Pipers. And the wiring pigtail could be 6" longer to make it easier to connect. Aerodon 2 Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 5, 2021 Report Posted December 5, 2021 I love mine! We used click bond nutplates and countersunk machine screws to attach them so that they'll be easier to service. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
