Resealed tanks

Anyone can tell me the approx cost for tanks resealed for an Ovation?

Some say that the tank are 89 gallons. Others says that all 89 gallons are 102 gallons if filled to the top. Is this right.

Also, anyone know a good Mooney Center Near Conroe, Texas (KCXO)

Ovation holds 89 gallons filled to the bottom of the filler neck.  About 100 if carefully filled to the caps.

The standard O1 tanks are about 102.

The Eagle uses a much lower number, but the tanks are physically the same size.  Internal tank hardware makes the difference.  That were born with a long fuel neck.  The fuel neck forces refueling to be slowed by venting al the air out the tank's vent.  Ingenious hangar elves have modified some of those necks.

The way to be sure, is as easy as reading your POH, which can often be found in the plane tucked in a pocket behind the copilot seat.

The POH lists all volumes.  Often they will use the Serial number of the airframe.  There is also a section of placards.  There is probably a placard or two for that...

How far is Conroe, TX from Longview? It's east of Dallas, look for KGGG. You won't find better service for your Mooney.

Between $11,000 to $13,000 depending on who you use.  Get bids from all who specialize in full tank reseals.  Not the time to try someone with little experience.  Mine are being resealed right now at Weep no More in Willmar, MN.  I live in California, so that should tell you what I think of them.

+1 on Weep no More. Definitely worth the trip there.

Mine were done by weep no more in 2010. No issues since I bought the plane. Think the warranty is good for 7 years if I recall correctly. 

Conroe to Longview is about a 3 hour drive and a 45-55 minute flight. 

Dugosh in Kerrville is also pretty good, Southwest Texas aviation in San Marcos (soon to be moving to KBAZ) heard good things. I have been to Maxwell more than once. Happy to share those experiences as well.

Had mine resealed at wetwingologists in Ft Lauderdale.  Does Mooney's only. Also has a 7 year warranty. Couldn't be happier.  From my research I think you are on solid footing if you go with Weep No More, Dugosh or wetwingologists.

Check with Houston Tank Specialists in Eagle Lake. I had a tank sealed at Willimar,MN and was happy with the job but......It is the hardest place to get to from Texas. It is in the boondocks west of Minneapolis. I had a guy with airline privileges take it up there and it still cost at least 1,500 to get it up there and back.. I flew commercial to Minneapolis, took a $50 cab ride to a small airport on the west side of town.  Paid a pilot to fly over and pick me up and fly us back to Willmar.. Flew to Omaha and spent the night. Got home the next day. I will try to get it done closer to home next time.

Pretty much why I ended up wetwingologists.  Have a 2nd house in Florida about a 1.3 flight time and commercial back to Virginia with mileage points after drop off.  Wetwingologists does have 24 years of service and a great reputation. I also know Paul at weep no more is very highly claimed.  I think if I was also going to do other upgrades at the same time as the reseal (dreaming that I had bottomless pockets) like interior, glass, annual at the same time I probably would have went to Paul and Bruce Jeager.

Where there's a will there's a way.  It's a 2 hour drive from Willmar to Minneapolis.  That's the extent of the "hard to get to" from Texas.  Paul even lent me his truck.  Remember, I flew there from Kerrville, Texas.  We'll see how it goes going the other way, but I have a potential student in Chicago who wants some training in his new Acclaim, who offered to fly to Willmar when the plane is ready for pickup.

Kerrville to Wilmar is 927 nm direct.

Wilmar to San Jose is 1288 mm direct.

Thank goodness for airline miles and hotel points.

There were significant reasons that I chose not to go with Houston Tank Specialists not the least of which was a significant price difference, more than all the expenses of going to Minnesota.  I got 3 bids before I decided to go with Weep no More.  The extra flying that I did was from Kerrville to Willmar, about 900 nm.  The distance from BDH and the Houston airport to SJC is about the same.  We had a great time in Minneapolis, spending several days at the Mall of America.  I still need to pick up the plane in a couple of weeks.

I took mine last year to Troutdale Oregon.  It is about 3 1/2 hours from home in Central Cal. Dealing with ice when I flew, priceless???

Airline flights were short, Fresno is about an hour from home.  It was still a day of moving the plane each way.  Houston and Wilmar would be a long day and then the airlines for a second day for me.  Don Kaye has many major airports not to far to make it easier also.

As Don said, check the prices of several shops, figure in all of the expenses and choose the best for your situation.

I don't care where anyone gets theit tanks sealed. My only disagreement was with Don's contradiction of my statement about it being hard to get a plane up there and back. I have done it and it is expensive and time consuming.

weep no more and you get a life long warranty. They are the best guys in the business of sealing tanks on Mooney. Don't show up to LASAR in  Northern California.

Not to be contrary (in fact Weep No More sealed the tanks in my J) but your post said "life long warranty".

If their warranty terms have changed I'd love to hear about it.

And don't discount the time and expense of returning the plane for warranty service if/when issues arise after a reseal job. I don't believe these costs are covered under anybody's warranty.

There are some cases where it makes sense to send a mechanic from the supplier to where the plane is for warranty work.  Other times the warranty work has been done by a trusted resource near the plane. A simple dab of sealant to reseal a single rivet is often part of the warranty service.  No need to fly th plane a couple of thousand miles for that...

The usual warenties are something like five or six years.  Which at one time seemed like a lifetime.  Now, six years goes by in a flash...

What the hell is it with getting old? Where the hell did 2016 go? What did I accomplish? I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that.

As for getting between MSP and BDH - should you choose Weep No More - for $100, Paul's partner Eric will fly to FCM and use a courtesy car to drive to MSP to pick you up/drop you off. It all went very smoothly for me. I would highly recommend Weep No More.

With their stripping machine, which I saw and is quite interesting, Paul said the actual job should take 2 weeks with a third week having the airplane sit with fuel to check for leaks.  In talking to him yesterday, my plane seems to be on schedule for that time frame.
