  1. With Bill White currently and have been for a couple years ... no complaints.
  2. I fly there twice monthly... just got back from Houston last night, place is just a mess.
  3. +1 for Dugosh in Kerrville. . . Many will recommend Don Maxwell at KGGG, I have been there a few times myself (pre buy and one annual) and it is only about a mooney hour from Austin.
  4. Welcome to ownership, I mean that in a good way despite the cirumstances. A good pre buy goes a long way for others thinking of buying, it is pay nor or pay later in my opinion. I believe in doing it up front so the "enjoyability" factor is higher while putting your first 100 or so hours on the bird. It is true in a sense that little kinks are going to pop up in first 100 or so hours even with a good pre buy.... Get them addressed and keep flying the bird until your first annual comes along and prepare to do it right so you can further enjoy ownership. My Mooney cost me only 170 an hour all in after I sold it. Doesn't get much better and that was a K model. Owning is better than renting!
  5. 231 is your best bang for buck. I owned a very nice example with a merlyn controller and the more desirable airflow systems intercooler. I never had any cooling issues and had no trouble keeping the CHT's under 380 all the time on the LB engine. Typical temps were 330-360. Burned 9.5-13 gph in cruise depending on how you like to run it, 18 in cruise climb and 24.9 on take off. Cruised 160TAS with ease at Lower power settings and 170TAS up in the high teens. We saw 200 plus over the ground on many trips in mid teens. All in it cost me 170 bucks per hour over the span I owned it, less than most sky hawks rent for where I live. This is all in after sold, includes maintenance, upgrades, fuel, oil, hangar, etc.. It was and still is a great airplane for the money. You have any questions on costs, maintenance, operations on the 231, etc shoot me a message, happy to share my experience with the K model. I still have every receipt for every penny I spent on that bird and have some good cost to own spreadsheets if your curious.
  6. Ethics, business practice and morality being question now over a "similar" but far from exact scheme? I see planes all the time that give me ideas of how I want to paint mine by changing one or two things to tweak it to my liking.... Do you have a venmo or pay pal? I'm pondering a transfer of 450 to you and 450 to PTK to end this one
  7. It is a pretty long and drawn out explanation. See link. https://www.schemedesigners.com/copyright-information/ PS: I don't think a similar design is copyright infringement and frankly think Clemens overall Mooney work looks great. If it was a K I might just buy another one. I used to own N231DH before upgrading. Always thought that scheme designers paint was pretty sweet too.
  8. Plus one for Bob .... I sent my KI256 out with the KFC200 AP computer part KC295 and the KC292 controller and came back good as New. Worked great up to the point I sold plane for upgrade.
  9. Go K model 231 or 252, killer bang for the buck.
  10. I prefer Atlantic personally at Austin. If you don't mind flying into San Marcos there are no ramp fees, cheaper fuel and it is a great airport, I use Redbird. Either way, enjoy your trip.
  11. +1 on aircraft door seals. I installed one on my K model and the material is much higher quality than what was on there prior. As said above glue is a pain, I used some serious paint remover but be careful with it.
  12. Here are some pics of the recent work done to my current plane by Aeroplus in Houston.... just did crew seats, arm rests, yoke wraps (did not want new gold logo inserts or stitched logo so used old silver decal), glare shield and some trim around windows. All material is Moore and Giles leather except the window trim is covered in ultra leather. Took 4 days total and very happy with the quality.
  13. I will get you some examples of AeroPlus work in my new plane later this week. Isn't cheap but was a tad more cost effective than AeroComfort and they got it done quicker for me. I am as detail oriented as they get and really like the quality of the work they did for me, the service provided and the quick turn around on the job. I did bid some Mooney work and Cessna 421c work recently with Hector and Juan over at Aerocomfort and they are knowledgeable and very responsive but in the end i went with http://www.aeroplusinteriorsinc.com for various reasons and highly recommend them. Not in North Texas but worth the short hop down there. Talk to Lorena Hernandez.
  14. AeroPlus Interiors in Houston did some recent work for me and the results were very good, they are at Houston Southwest KAXH. Pricing was a tad cheaper than AeroComfort and they got the work done in a more reasonable time frame. Happy to send you a few pictures if what they have on website isn't enough. They did crew seats, yoke wraps, glare shield and a few other areas around cockpit windows.
  15. On my way home from Arizona Monday "Mooney 6" was on a test flight up to FL250 over JCT, sounded like it went well!!
  16. Sounds like a nice panel. Software is likely it but just curious which terrain database arc second version was it on the G500, 4.9?? I made the mistake of accidentally downloading the 9 arc version on my G600 and it wouldn't work. The GTN units are arc 9 and the G500 should be arc 4.9. Hopefully the software issue was it if not check the arc second version....
  17. 3 crashes now in the what 30 produced airframes they have flying?
  18. That will be a really nice set up......I would recommend getting a GTN750 though for the modernized platform and get some sort of connectivity to it. I just picked up a FS510 for mine and it is super nice to be able to flight plan on the iPad, file and then send it right to the panel. Just did a round trip to Nashville and back from Austin this weekend using the 510 for first time and the ability to beam from foreflight to the GTN which obviously pushes to the G600 was great and saved me time from having to enter all the airways, is almost too easy. Coming previously from an Aspen and 430w I don't miss the 430 at all with its knob functions but didn't bother me while I had it. You could also trade the 530 out and go with a small non gps #2 nav/com and use a garmin remote audio panel to save some panel space....do you really need two GPS's in the 231? My panel was was done by Flite Electronics in Addison for what it's worth on the current bird. Feel free to hit me up if you have questions on the flight stream, JPI, 750's or the G500. I have really enjoyed the panel.
  19. Rock on, congrats! Cant wait to see some pics. K model is great, I loved my 231, super efficient and a very capable machine.
  20. Between just those two options I would go GTN650 all day. I had a 430w and had no issues prior to going dual 750's but once I switched I realized how much easier and more intuitive it was to have the touch screens and newer tech. My regular flight plan from Austin to Arizona now took less than half the time to enter. With a 650 you can get the flight stream 510 for a tad more than the 210 but requires no install time, just pop the card in and go and it will likely be cheaper in the long run by eliminating the install time. I am supposed to pick up a FS510 card tomorrow in New Braunfels so will report back on how it pans out.
