I currently have a 430W and a yoke mounted 496 in my Grumman.  I love both of them.  The Mooney I am purchasing has a 430W and I planned on keeping my 496 but it appears that the guy I am selling the plane to is willing to pay me for the 496.  That being said, I love the XM radio, weather and functions of the 496.  I haven't kept up with the market over the last few years....  What else is out there?  My 496 was coupled to the 430, I would like to do the same thing with whatever I install in the new plane.  Thanks!

If you have the panel space, consider the 696 in a Airgizmo panel mount. It's a very slick machine. If you want, or have to stay yoke mount, then the 560 is the way to go.

If you have decent vision, believe in "see and avoid", and doen't want to spend a bundle modifying your panel, an Aera 510 or 560 is an excellent choice.

Here's an alternative.  I'm just starting on refurbing my panel and I've installed a panel gizmo on the right side to hold a AvMap GeoPilot II + (a mouthful).  It is fun to use, has a big screen, and is around $550.  I'll try to attach a pic of it.  It can have weather capabilities and can connect to some autopilots.  I'm still learning the unit, but like it so far.
