N252WD Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Running shoes or crocks, if crocks I pull them off in the plane and go barefooted.
ryoder Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I have heard that Marauder prefers au naturel. Man I hate to be beaten to a punchline!
Marauder Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 We do already have one bunny. His name is Mr Bunny. We just need one more for my other foot. Be bery quiet... I sees me a wabbit 1
TWinter Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I'm particular about my footwear when I fly. I have one pair of sneakers that are thin runner style sole..They are what I refer to as my "red flying shoes". Call ne strange I know. I always have better landings and fly better when I wear my special flying Nikes on. Call me superstitious, but I try to never fly without them on. lol I guess if I'm only superstitious about my shoes it's not a bad thing..It could be worse like some other piece of clothing..
Hank Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I only wear two shoes any more--Rockports or New Balance tennis shoes. I wear the (Rockport) wingtips less than once a year . . . But I may have flown a few times in my Timberland hiking boots after shoveling much of that disgusting white stuff from the driveway and in front of the hangar door, with no ill effects beyond cold hands and face, tired arms and back, and over-stressed cardiovascular system. Never paid any attention to reflections on the instruments other than those of the windows.
bonal Posted January 23, 2015 Author Report Posted January 23, 2015 Normally I am wearing some light tennis shoes and my landings have been very consistent but on this day I was wearing my work boots which are not only heavy but nearly new. Weather conditions were perfect my speeds were right where I want them but touch down was firm. No bounce not hard just firm. As for the reflection if I'm flying into the sun and wearing a white or light shirt the reflection in the bank indicator makes it almost impossible to see the indication. When I play my drum kit I am always barefoot.
BorealOne Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 You guys should get some nice bunny slippers. Did someone say Blunnie slippers? Invented by Australians, appropriated by Canadians...best boots ever. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blundstone_Footwear Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Johnnybgoode Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 The U.S. Navy flies with steel toed boots. Required for the boat. You're right, though, the USAF doesn't use steel toed boots- they are suede, but still very thick soled Bellevilles. Interesting - learn something new every day. Thanks! Patrick

DrBill Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I wear a light pair of running sneakers for flying. On long trips I prefer a nomex flight suit because the zipper zips UP and makes it easier to use the range extender bottle. Works for me.

Marauder Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Tmi ... I guess you don't want to hear about Bennett and our Depends!
aviatoreb Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Reminds me of a nice lady who took a road trip ... Any of you work for NASA? I remember the story of that astronaut lady - where is she today?
Bob_Belville Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 I remember the story of that astronaut lady - where is she today? Sad tale: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Nowak
bonal Posted January 24, 2015 Author Report Posted January 24, 2015 I always find it fascinating how posts evolve and I just started this as kind of a light spirited subject and did expect some Marauder type good humor but am at a loss how this astronauts story comes into play. What's it got to do with shoes. I was just getting used to the idea of some bunny slippers for my Mooney.

What's it got to do with shoes. I was just getting used to the idea of some bunny slippers for my Mooney. You got to follow the history trail... DrBill mentions a Nomex suit because it allows him to relieve himself in flight due to the zipper design. Bennett and I were ostracized last year because we admitted that during our storied flying careers we opted for solution "B" to the in-flight relief problem and chose to use Depends. Why Depends? Because when you are flying mixed company, pulling out Mr. Johnson isn't always a good option. Other reason is sometimes option "A" of using Lil John in turbulence can get pretty ugly. Which then led us to our most recognizable member of the Depends Club, the aforementioned astronaut. Did that help connect the dots? 1

And what does it have to do with shoes, nothing unless you over fill your Depends and it leaks down your legs and as you get out of the plane it drips on your shoes or if you are a Lil John user and a) turbulence causes you to urinate on your shoes or you just have incredibly bad aim or c) your Johnson bar is just too short to make the connection. In the latter cases there will be a whole lot more than your shoes involved in the cleanup.
Cabanaboy Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 I have found Ferrari driving shoes are best for Mooney Flying 2
carusoam Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Wait for it... The guy with the most experience repurposing a G bottle hasn't checked in yet.... A CB's CB! A fine engineering solution with a CB price tag. It's the technical experience that counts, -a-
bonal Posted January 24, 2015 Author Report Posted January 24, 2015 Here is my wife's newest pair of flying shoes she got from Santa 2
N9405V Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Believe it or not I got some of those for Xmas- been flying with them, too- not bad for a slip on boot! I've got a pair of Blundstones that I have worn almost every day for 14 years. Resoled them twice. Great shoe, comfortable, and great for flying.
