MooneyPTG Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 Please post any mooney activities, seminars, get togethers, etc. for EAA Oshkosh this July. I would greatly appreciate it. Quote
yvesg Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 It would be nice if we could arrange a Mooneyspace get together in Oshkosh. There are many posters I would like to meet in person and believe this is also the case for many others. Would any others wish to do this? If there is interest for this, I will check with Larry and Chris to get permission to use the Mooney Caravan tent for an hour or two for this when it is not used. I will check with them and post something a few weeks before the event. From last year experience, after the Caravan BBQ (which happens on a Tuesday I think) the tent was pretty well free after that. Wednesday between the day airshow and night airshow is probably a good time to do this. Yves 1 Quote

testwest Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 I am giving a presentation of the public debut of the Vz climb profile in Forum tent 4, 11:30 AM on Monday, July 28. KSMooniac's Mooney was one the the airplanes used for the research, and he was the first person to try the profile "in the wild". I hope to see a lot of Mooneyspacers there, lunch afterward somewhere might be a good kickoff to the week. Afterward we can go flash-mob Century Flight Systems on the C-4000 autopilot for our planes! 2 Quote
Danb Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 Great idea. Get some Mooneyspace in Oshkosh 2014. T-shirts made Quote
rainman Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 Norman, I read your Master's Degree thesis on Vz. Very nice and super useful. Thanks for doing the work ( and using Mooneys as the test aircraft). I'll be at Oshkosh and look forward to hearing your presentation. Quote
testwest Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 Thanks, rainman! I hope to see a few others from Mooneyspace there as well. ESPECIALLY if you are using the Vz technique. There will be a chance at some audience participation, and all comments are welcome, good and bad! Quote

orionflt Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 I should be arriving saturday afternoon, I am not sure exactly where i will end up parking but it will be in the vintage camping area. my wife and one of our friends tow a camper out a week early and help with the preparations, that gives us an advantage of also sending camping gear and canopies to set up by the airplane. in the past we have been lucky with our parking spot and have been able to hang out under the 10X20 pop up canopy we bring and watch the airshows. once we are there and set up I will post our location, every one will be welcome to stop hang out and watch the show if they would like. we usually have a couple of planes from Quakertown that fly in and park together, but this year it is looking like we may be solo. can't wait to meet up with every one out there. orionflt Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Brian: Have you considered the Mooney Caravan? I have but I like to park in vintage and I don't have enough extra time to do the formation clinic. I do some formation flying with friends around here but when you are flying in that big of a group everybody needs to be using the same signals and have to know where to expect the other segments of the formation. yvesg Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Great idea! Hope it works out. Please keep us posted. Great idea. Yes, do keep us posted. David The Mooney Caravan tent use was granted for a Mooneyspace posters get together. The tent is busy for different events (see Dave M post above for details and note that all are invited) so there are a few options: - Have it scheduled on Monday (6 PM)? - Could be before the Wednesday seminar ( from 2-4 PM, tent need to be free by 4 PM) but this is during the day airshow. - One could be arranged for Thursday or Friday but I might be gone by then. Please provide some feedback... but keep in mind that it is hard to make everyone happy :-) Yves 1 Quote

jetdriven Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks, rainman! I hope to see a few others from Mooneyspace there as well. ESPECIALLY if you are using the Vz technique. There will be a chance at some audience participation, and all comments are welcome, good and bad! Vz or Vz+20 can be used, combined with 180-200 MPH IAS descents to block exactly one hour on a 150 nm flight. It's a great idea, Norm. Quote
testwest Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 <OT> Thanks! So if you are climbing at 135KIAS, when do you transition to 500 fpm. <RTT> Monday evening works for me too! Quote
jetdriven Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Norm, I transition to 500 FPM when it can't climb better than that. Perhaps around 5000'. If VFR I cheat that a bit, call it 300-400 FPM. I also rarely fly near gross weight, usually its 300lb under gross. Air race config is a bit different. Its 155-160 KIAS in ground effect, then 200-300 FPM to 1500 AGL. But that's looking for speed only, no consideration for fuel efficiency. 1 Quote
yvesg Posted June 28, 2014 Report Posted June 28, 2014 It seems like we have several MooneySpace forum pilots who want to meet on Monday PM in Oshkosh. The Mooney Caravan tent will be open for us. I will get in touch with Dave who mentionned above that beverages can be arranged.... we'll see about this. I will post later directions how to get to the tent. Yves Quote
