Van Nuys, my old stomping ground. There was a pretty interesting documentary from a few years ago called "One Six Right" which chronicled the history of the airport.

WOW! Warm welcomes, thank you guys you're awesome! Can't wait to get to know some of you!

@buster1 I will let you know about the spark plug cradle

@mike_elliott the plane and the previous owner are very nice. It was his baby that's for sure

@bob_belville that's interesting... Our planes were on the line at the same time, very cool. The gear is electric but my step is vacuum and the crank is the emergency gear extend. Is yours the step crank?

@rbridges no my gf doesn't have her license but she loves flying with me.

@matt Michael pull the trigger man! But do your homework on whatever you find. You will love it!

@htwjr that's classic!! Hilarious

@9495V I am based at KVNY

I have the vacuum step retract that was standard in '66. I mistook your back up gear crank for the older ('64?) step crank and that was a puzzle. You're plane was electric gear out of the factory? Didn't realize that was offered in '66.

@bob_belville it was added after the fact...thinking back when I was reading through the logs. Just unsure exactly what year it was done.I think it was right after it came off the line.

@flyboy0681 man everybody from CA moves to Florida. I know quite a few pilots that have moved there

There are always trade-offs, but not having a state income tax and 6% sales tax is nice although I do miss living in Woodland Hills.

We decided to leave LA somewhere between the fires, floods, riots, OJ, Northridge quake and landslides.

Yup, I think I got them all.

Haha don't forget all the damn shootings. I've been wanting to get out of here myself just haven't found the right opportunity to do so.

I wish it was only 6% sales tax in CA you must have left a while ago!

One of the many reasons I have a plane is to fly my family over the cluster that will happen on the California freeways when a disaster occurs, man made or natural. Millions of stuck people fighting over food, gas and in traffic!

Beautiful bird(s)! Hate to see something so beautiful leave the Midwest...Enjoy her and all the fun and excitement she can unlock. Really well equipped for a ''66. The previous caretaker did a nice job of stewardship and preparation for the new LA Princess.

ENJOY!!!!!

I've now flown 3 and looked at 2 more. "Junk" might be too strong a word but what I've seen has been pretty discouraging. Next one looks pretty sweet but they all do before I'm standing there checking it out in person. Utterly fascinating though and meeting some real nice folks

Scott I will enjoy her alright! And she will get many many hours flying around the south western skies.

Matt I see you're from Iowa. Our first stop was in davenport. Unplanned due to weather. Keep searching for what you want and don't settle unless you plan to upgrade it. I've been searching for over a year.

Congratulations. Sweet looking plane. Hope your GF gets to fly it too. My wife is boycotting flying in her older years. I think its to punish me for an unauthorized aquisition but she says is because she's afraid of flying. You guys will be able to have so much fun and adventures!!

very very nice !!!  I have been doing my due diligence.  My problem is that I can like just about any airplane especially if its owner have been kind. :D Is it inappropriate to ask the price range for Aircraft in this type of condition ??

Cheers and Blue Skies,

Welcome. I am working on getting a similarly aged bird back in the air. It is now awaiting inspection and then put the interior back in. I have done quite a bit to get it ready for its first annual in 5 years! Mine is a '66E s/n 1006

I remember that. How's the restoration coming along?

Not inappropriate at all. We got our girl for 50k and from the research i've done and the equipment she has i have to say that we are proud of that number. The only thing i wish she had was an A/P. but we're okay with that. i think we got a great deal.

I just brought it in for the annual today! Should be done by the end of the week, and then I need to learn to fly it.

Awesome! cant wait to see pictures! you will not have any problem transitioning into this airplane. Respect it and it will respect you ! :)

I had her in the air this week. Was up for an hour and a half. It flew very well and will go up for another hour and a half flight on Monday. The transition was surprisingly easy. I am used to an Arrow and it was similar, minus the speed and lack of desire to slow down in the pattern.

That's what I had trouble with. PLANNED DESCENTS! And power reductions. They like to go fast when you point the nose down. When I fly the pattern I pull it back to 25/25 at 500' agl. And when I level off at tpa I'll pull it back to 20"-18". That seems to work for me and make slowing down more manageable not sure how others do it.
