  2. So Mrs. Yetti and I were at an Estate sale and over in the corner was a White Rotary 77 sewing machine 30% off for $70.00. I was going to resell it, but started reading up on them and they will do leather and canvas without a problem. Oiled it up and put the heavy duty thread that I had for the to be purchased walking foot and it is running fine. First project was some outdoor cushion covers. There was one hide left over from 2 hide interior project. I almost pulled the rear seat out yesterday to start on it, but trying to pace myself. This was a test piece of leather.

  4. Mark, Unfortunately way too many shops feel that they have an "open ticket". When asked to explain or detail their bill, the answer is usually very vague and they just smile while holding their hand out. Arrogance is the common element that I have found! Told that something will take a couple hours and then charged 12, a charge of 10 hrs for a 1.5 hr job and being charged a second time when a tech does not follow a mandatory service bulletin and messes things up are all things that I have witnessed too many times. Unfortunately greed from some shops is beyond destructive to GA!

  9. Carl, the guy kinda sounded like he was hooked on a long body and, although there are longer bodied Mooney other than the F and G's, we all know that size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it.... For me and the kind of flying I do, which ressembles Cody's planned flying, the E is the perfect plane. I sometimes refer to it as the Porsche 911 Carrera of the Mooney fleet. Sure there are two «seats» in the back where you can fit two people for short trips, but what you really bought it for is it's super handling and speed... That's probably why they called it the Super 21!

Ok, I have finally gone through and set each user that has donated to Mooneyspace with the group "Supporter" - you will see this under your avatar in posts, etc. Members that have not donated will appear as "Basic Member." Any member that has donated $10 or more in the past 12 months will be a Supporter. I don't have an automated way of doing this so there will likely be lag in getting your supporter status after donating. Note that we will be putting in advertisements in the site soon. Supporters will not see these ads and Basic Members will. If you have not donated in the past year please consider doing so to support the site. Also note that I don't have record of the members that sent in checks - if you did please let me know when you did this and I can find the deposit record online. Happy Holidays Everyone! Craig

  16. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MOONEY INTERNATIONAL M10 POC ACHIEVES FIRST FLIGHT Innovative Fixed-Gear M10T Aircraft Completes First Flight in Chino, California CHINO, CA (DEC. 23) — Mooney International Corp. has successfully completed the first flight of the M10T Proof of Concept (POC) aircraft. The first flight was performed by test pilot Len Fox on Wednesday, December 23rd in the vicinity of the Chino Airport in California. The flight lasted approximately 15 minutes, with Len Fox conducting basic flight maneuvers and verifying design data. At the conclusion of the flight, Len Fox was greeted by a crowd of engineers from the M10 team highly enthused to see their new design take flight for the first time. “The flight was a tremendous milestone for the M10 program,” said Jerry Chen, CEO of Mooney International. “Our team of engineers have been working very hard to reach this day, and we are excited to have achieved this milestone in 2015, just one year after announcing the M10 program at Zhuhai Airshow in China.” The M10T, announced in 2014, is Mooney International Corporation’s highly innovative, new design, carbon-fiber, 3 seat, fixed-gear aircraft. Powered by the Continental Technify CD-135, Jet-A engine, the M10 is a new generation aircraft designed by Mooney specifically for flight training operations. The M10T will continue testing as the program works towards certification in the next few years. About Mooney Mooney has manufactured and delivered more than 11,000 aircraft worldwide. Today, more than 7,800 customers in the United States and 1,000 more overseas fly these proven, high-performance airplanes. 18. Check the notams check the notams check the notams. Bottom line is he didn't. Nothing falls back on ATC. Who knows they could have been super busy at the moment and missed it. They're human too. Regardless he went in uncontrolled on top of that canceled ifr. Pour airplane. Glad everyone is okay though. The price of the plane isn't anywhere near the cost of the lives. I'm assuming they will be very thankful this Christmas! Mike

  20. I remember that. I flew the day before it went out and was supposed to fly the day after. I have a phone number for regional approach if you want that. Something I like to have if I lose radios. Give them a call and they can coordinate for you, beats doing the standard NORDO procedures. If you want it, send me a PM.

  21. Yup, it is very likely that the drain tubing has come loose at the ceiling fresh air scoop. Not sure about your F but my '66E had a weak or no hose clamp securing the drain tube. Take down the headliner panel and you should be able to see what's happened. If you want to verify that this is the culprit just open the scoop and run some water through the scoop. If the back seat gets wet instead of the water coming out the tubing though a hole in the belly behind the back seat...

  22. The new boots are in and work great. I can literally climb out with PC engaged hands off trimmed out and with no rudder in and the PC will maintain runway heading with a bit of a slip. I push on the rudder to center the ball and it maintains wings level instantly. It is kind of awesome when it works well. It never really worked this well. I bet the ailerons were blown out years ago.

  28. What part of he cancelled ifr and landed vfr didn't make sense? The only thing he was cleared to do was squawk vfr... The rest is on him. There are other details and circumstances I won't get into. It's a combination of bad timing and not bothering with ctaf it sounds like that got him.

  30. These discussions about corrosion come up from time to time and a lot of good points are made. Corrosion is an undeniable enemy of things mechanical. However, I am in the "skeptics corner" when it comes to some of the posts about how an engine is corroded if one doesn't fly his plane every day, week, month (pick one). I keep my airplane in a metal hangar and I do get some condensation inside when the weather is wet. However, in addition to my planes I also store pieces and parts that have accumulated over the years. Here is a picture of an engine part that has sat out on an open shelf near my planes for about 12 years. I was going to post the picture of the camshaft from an A-65 that sat right beside it (also corrosion free), but my neighbor who gives the A&P practical tests has borrowed it. 12 years with no lubrication, no nuthin' and no corrosion. I believe corrosion is somewhat like cancer, there's no real good way to predict when, or if it will strike a particular metal part, but there are "risk factors". Keeping your airplane in a hangar is pretty basic.

  33. I would guess it is how you define stable approach. In the c172 on a long straight approach my wife would get motion sickness. On the U turn and put it on the runway in the Mooney she does not. The U turn to land is very stable constant rate turn bleeding off airspeed as we go. If the engine quits I know I will make the runway. Everyone should do what they are comfortable with and works for them.

  36. I would not worry at all if you have the email. Make a copy and/or archive it. The only way you could lose is if he decides to renege on the deal (unlikely), claims he didn't send the email (very unlikely), could convince someone important (judge, etc.) he didn't send it. (Very highly unlikely).

  42. I have SVT on my G1000 and I find it most useful while flying approaches in IMC because of the airport/runway depiction. Pretty slick, in my opinion, to actually "see" the runway while you're flying the approach. En route I'm usually so high that it adds no value. I think the price is in the $10-$15K range.
