Also, are you sure that the pilot was minted in 2012, or if he just ordered a replacement certificate? Every time I move I get a new certificate and the online certificate search shows my date of issue as being when the latest replacement was ordered, not when I received my rating.

I wonder if it ran out of gas or if it was another issue that made the owner think he had run out of gas. Crashing an airplane is pretty traumatic and I would not think the pilot's first diagnosis to necessarily be correct.

I hope he didn't run out of gas.  IF he was drinking, he's already coming across as irresponsible.  This would only make it that much worse.

Looks like it got to get off the ground one last time.

That looks like it will buff right out! Tell me that is not a road right next to where it went down...

No need to do any pointing. Now that the NTSB is involved, they will be looking at logs and records. All will be revieled. Jerry is not unknown to the FAA. If Jerry's shoddy work is to blame and the papers aren't in order, they will get to Jerry fast enough without any help. In Jerry's defence, it may be just stupid drunk pilot tricks at play here. At this point we really don't know what happened.

All we do know is a nice old Mooney drown in a flood only to arise from the dead as a zombie. Now the Mooney is dead for good.   RIP. :(

Not a clean head-shot, but a near surgical amptuation.  Perhaps the "last flight" made the separation of head from body complete...
