Cabin Nose Gear Faring Screws-Be Careful

Recommended Posts

I just had my 66 M20E in for the AD (passed) and I had them jack the plane so I could re-install the painted nose-gear plastic shroud.  (J-bar blocks putting on unless gear is re-tracted.  Anyway, I wanted to replace the screws and found that the holes go through into the nose gear retract area.  We used bolts JUST long enough to mount a lock-nuts on.  There would be a potential of having the screw(s) if TOO LONG puncture the side-wall of the tire during retraction/extension with B.A.D. results upon landing.  Just thought I would pass this on as hadn't occured to me until we checked that these screws would go into the gear well area.  Looks great now that they are back in place.  Wish I had painted the J-bar and flap handle black...going to have to be creative to get that done now...
