  1. A little concern about the report of noise spill over from the square wave into radio circuits. I have some cabin overhead leds on a boat that wreck havoc with weak FM signals.
  2. I would like to replace the large, heavy (8" dia) rheostat that controls lighting level for overhead spots, post lights and compass light on my 65E. What are others doing?
  3. I am looking to replace all three tires and tubes on my 1965 E. I have looked at the major distributors but do not get much information. Will a Michelin500x5 (6 ply) fit in the nose well ok? Looking primarily at Michelin and Condor. Suggestions of sources? Plan to use Air Stop tubes in any case.
  4. What surface treatment, primer did you use on interior Aluminum surfaces. Seems like everything that I might want to use comes in gallon quantities for several hundred $.
  5. Why not a Garmin GPS 175 WAAS with a GI-106A/B Course Deviation Indicator. I think you could bring that in at about $8000. No need to go overkill on an old G.
  6. Yesterday I learned that my glide slope receiver/indicator is Kaput on glide slope. Anyone have a 14V KI 214 they want to move?
  7. I have decided to purchase a Garmin Glo2 GPS with 12/24V power cable from Amazon for $99.00. Foreflight says it will work fine with my IPAD and their product. This combination is still cheaper than a cellular IPAD. Foreflight said that a blue tooth or hot spot link to my Android smart phone would not work with their product.
  8. I recently purchased a new IPAD (9th generation) with wi-fi but no cellular. I have installed the trial period Foreflight and will probably move up to Foreflight Pro. The IPAD does not have GPS. I am installing a Stratus ESG 3i transponder that I understand will supply GPS to my IPAD. However, away from running aircraft, like when traveling in automobile, I have no GPS. Can I blue tooth to my smart phone? Is there a reasonably priced GPS lump that is made just to blue tooth GPS to other units that will work. I did not want Cellular for my Foreflight IPAD but did not realize this meant no onboard GPS. Probably should have the paid the $130 extra and just not turned on the Cellular function. Be forewarned.
  9. I was visiting a shop that worked on biz-jets. They just finished replacing some windows. The gasket had a membrane across that was cut away and disposed of. Seemed just right for this application. Not to thick not to thin. I replaced my ram-air seal with this about ten years ago and it is still going strong. I still have a roll in my box from this same window.
  10. What model and year is this excerpt from? I somehow doubt it is from an M-18 Mite. Thanks
  11. Wonder if a later year E Model Service Manuel would have specific criteria and technique for evaluating. I think mine are still ok but would like to be able to know categorically and maybe even to log the evaluation.
  12. Some years ago I converted and upgraded my nose and main gear rubber disc count. My 65E service manual (Section 5G) only gives evaluation criteria for the original. Can someone tell, or refer me to, information of evaluation of rubber disc stack for the new count.
  13. Just saw your message. What is your price? Thanks
  14. We checked continuity from coax outer to each element. One was zero. Pulled antenna and discovered broken #4 bolt that goes from eyelet, through Bakelite, to element. Started to remove unit, balun, and coax, but decided that was a bad move and that unit could be repaired with it just pulled up and out. Had to remove a few cable constraints at bottom to get some extra coax length. Tied a rope on to be sure not to loose end but did not have to go that far. Replaced broken bolt and lock nuts, inspected balun and assembly, dielectric grease on electrical connections and Anti Seize on mounting bolts, checked continuity, and put it back together. Flight tested fine. Diagram of cable assembly presented here was the key and extremely helpful. Thanks. Balun was tucked into space at top of fin above antenna and went back in easily. Removing two mounting bolts without messing up coax was futzy but doable with care and box/open end wrench. Airframe ground at bottom of balun went to the front mounting bolt. Might be best to tape on a towel or paper to avoid dangling parts scratching fin paint.
  15. My Elgin has worn out winding rachet. Looking for parts or for replacement yoke clock. Seems like the new quartz versions are too deep for yoke mount.
  16. Similar problems on both NavComs in my 65E indicate Antenna problem. I have been advised to replace old cat whisker antenna with new that includes integrated balun. Any suggestions on replacement or equipment? Comant replacement says elements not removable, but my install requires element removal to mount old cover.
  17. Ok. I have tried extensive pumping through. Even rigged a pressure fluid supply to add pressure and fluid to top of reservoir. Finally drained down the entire flap system and refilled from the top. No luck. When I am pumping flaps down, the handle springs back up to mid position. I can tell that this return is putting fluid back up into reservoir. Nothing I have tried changes this at all. On a down stroke the flaps will go down and then spring back half of the stroke. Same as handle. The only bubbles I saw any time were at the end of the drain down. Maybe time to call an expert.
  18. I bled down and refilled a brake recently and that probably introduced the air. I hope.
  19. I agree. How important is it to provide extra pressure at the reservoir before starting the bleed?
  20. I think you are correct. Pulling the belly pan is a job and a pain so I thought I would get any input here first to see if I might need parts. I read the Service Manual. As near as I can tell they want me to put a 35psi pressure pot into the top of the reservoir. Guess I can cobble something up for that, I think I have a hose fitting for up there. Any ideas on whether the air pocket is at the pump cylinder or the at the jack cylinder. If it is at the pump cylinder that may take a lot of fluid to move the air back to the T fitting on the jack cylinder.
  21. My flaps are working but have a problem. The handle wants to spring up after each stroke. Used to be a solid four strokes to full flaps with no handle spring back. Now about eight with a lot of spring back with each stroke. Handle wants to stay sprung up with any flap setting. I replaced o-rings two years ago and flaps seemed fine until recently. When I release the latch they come up as usual. No sign of fluid leakage and flaps stay down once set.
  22. I started trying to track down the manufacturer and model # for the prop governor on my 65E with an IO-360-A1A Lycoming and a Hartzell two blade prop. I found the serial number on a rebuild tag but it did not include the Manufacturer or the Model Number. Anyone have this info easily at hand?
  23. My Sky Tec, 149 NL, worked well for ten years. Then after a few months sitting, it just froze up. Used "pin replace" instruction to separate motor and drive. Immediately found that water incursion had cause solenoid plunger to corrode and lock up. Cleaned and lubed plunger and housing and it worked fine, except question about water incursion. Sky Tec support was very helpful. Be careful that the 50 inch pounds in the instruction may twist off the screw heads. Maybe better to use hand torque and judgement.
  24. A year or so ago a number of Bendix, push to start, rebuild kits were on E-bay. Does anyone have one of those kits to sell?
  25. At over $550.00 for new, looks like someone would rebuild and yellow tag this common switch for a reasonable price. Any suggestions?
