CINC-House (who wholeheartedly enjoys riding in the Mooney) wants to know what "everybody else does with their hairspray when you go really high" (flight levels).  We've had a couple of zip-lock saves that she is trying to avoid.  Aerosol is out (I've told her) and pump is probably the way to go, but does anyone have suggestions (for us non-hair spray using types :D )?

Thanks in advance

I know I have carried the pump type hairspray in my aircraft because it is just always in my travel toiletry kit, but I can't say I have ever noticed a problem with hairspray. Never thought about it. I get the small sample sized bottles for travel. I would put them in a plastic bag just in case, I do that with all my liquids and tubes of stuff even when I am going by commercial airline. Most of them won't leak but it only takes one....

Keep one of the old pump bottles. Fill old bottle to half full then squeeze/compress the bottle until all or nearly all the air is evacuated. The fluid level should reach near or at the top. Replace cap and ensure it is air tight. Put in plastic bag for additional security. It will expand and contract with altitude but should not leak even in the FL’s.

Beware of chip bags! One popping open behind your head will scare the daylights out of you, until you smell them.

Only some bags will pop . . . .

Put everything in plastic bottles and make sure they are full, if they are not full squeeze them down to get the air out of them. The air pressure only affects the air in the bottles, not the liquid, no air, no problem.
