Thought I post a few pics of my newly purchased M20F. I’m selling my 67C which I posted only here in Mooneysoace and there is a buyer waiting completion of the annual at Maxwell. I purchased this F model from another member here that I have known for a long time. Very happy with my purchase as I wanted more space for the back seat passengers. Not that I fly often with full seats but the few times a year when I do I always wished for a little bigger cabin. The F comes with STEC 55x, two 430Ws, a Gi275 for AI, JPI 900, as FS210. Already scheduled an avionics upgrade later this month to replace one of the 430w with a GTN650xi, replace the analog HSI with an GI 275, and the panel mounted 496 with a 660. If you see something in the panel you would change please let me know. Always looking for good ideas. I’ll be sad to see my C go because it has been bulletproof for the 12 years I’ve owned it. I sure hope the F is as reliable an airplane as my C has been. 8482cf88cb9ad6d4b80301d36061329e.jpg

Nice! Have you considered the Avidyne 440 slide in replacement for the 430? Could be a good option…

Very nice plane!

Nice looking bird Hector and well equipped. What’s the UL?

For most of its life the UL was just over 1000 lbs even after the avionics upgrade, then a few years ago it got put on scales an the UL dropped to 950 range (don’t recall exact number)

Certainly have as it would be less costly and offer similarly functionally as the 650. Have not discounted that option. Since the other stuff is Garmin I was concerned with mixing other brands. For example, I know the 650xi will cross feed the 430w and the new panel mounted 660 and would obviously play nice with the GI275s. Have not researched if there would be any issues if I throw an Avidyne in the mix.

Congrats, Hector! Fs are nice rides. Based on my own limited experience and trouble at a short stopover, have someone show you the hot start technique--Fs are much more reluctant to fly an hour, drop off a friend, hit the head and restart than our Cs.

Keep us informed as things progress.

The previous owner showed me and I have watched the Maxwell video as well. Have not tried a hot start yet. Hopefully it will go well.

Well, forgot to mention an important fact that I would like input on. The airplane has a backup vacuum powered AI. It is the only instrument in the plane that uses vacuum. The backup AI and the retractable boarding step is all the vacuum system operates. I’m debating whether to remove the vacuum system since it will soon have two GI275s and I could convert the step to electric. Any real value in keeping the vacuum system for the vacuum AI?

for the price of the 650 and install i'd just buy 2 avidynes, also once you have a new navigator and the 2nd 275, why bother with the 660, you already have the tablet

I've got a G600 PFD/MFD and I swapped out my 430/530 combo for an IFD 440/540 combo.  The 430 to 440 will be plug and play,  Assuming Garmin didn't make the 275 so it will only play well with other Garmin's, the key will be making sure the data transfer settings on the 440 match the 275.  I had some issues when the 430 settings were copied over to the 440.  The 430 was on low speed and the 600 was high speed data.  For whatever reason, the Garmin's didn't care about the mis-match, but the the G600 didn't like the data coming from the 440/540 at low speed.  Course pointer was at 360 no matter what direct was.  Once that was sorted, I have 100% of the functionality I had in the Avidyne's as I did with the Garmin's on my G600.  I can't remember if the 650 gets you the same Airway building qualities as the Avidyne 440 will have out of the box.  Depending on the type of flying you do around busy airspace, may make a difference.

Once that was sorted out I've been very happy with the Avidyne's so far for much less than getting the Garmin equivalents.  The upgrade to the 440/540 was a net 15 AMU's, for both after selling off my old 430/530.  That was for Avidyne OH'd units with a New Warranty.

The 440 is nice redundancy for the 540, but overkill for a single in my opinion.  I may end up downgrading to just a nav/com and using the excess AMU's for other projects, but I haven't dug deep into that just yet.

Beautiful plane.  I'm sure you will love the dual GI 275s.  Personally I like the GTN better than the Avidyne but I think they will both work for you.  When I upgraded my 430s to GTNs the 430s had enough resale value that the upgrade was fairly cheap, I think it was $12K for both net.  That was about 10 years ago though.  There was a mention of airway based planning which is easy to do on the GTN as well.

Congrats!
We still haven't run in to each other at HEG, but I'm sure we will sooner or later!
Safe travels!

I have a bunch of time in Glens old F. Great plane. Congrats Hector. He really took good care of it the many years he had it

He sure did Mike. When Glen decided to sell it a few years ago my buddy saw it here in Mooneyspace and jumped on it immediately. I went with my buddy to pick it up because he did not have much Mooney time at all. I liked it so much that I told him if he ever decided to sell it to call me first. He has another flying job in the military and recently decided to sell it and gave me a call first, as we had discussed back then. Like him, I jumped on it right away. I’m upgrading the avionics a bit and the interior, installing CIES fuel senders and probably swapping out the generator for an alternator. I was giving the group here a chance to recommend other changes in case they come up with something I have not considered, which they often do.

I have dual GI-275s with an IFD 540, and they play together very well.
