Hello Mooniacs

So what's the most effective way to drain the gascolator for those who have it. Placing a GATS jar typically does the job on a no-wind day, but those don't happen quite that often. I have tried placing a funnel on top and trying to balance it but most of the time this approach has failed me. Curious what others have been doing to avoid spilling our favorite juice on to the surface.

I had a wooden dowel with hook on it, could reach through the storm window with right arm and hold the sample cup under the drain

What i did was buy a cheap plastic cup holder for a car and the use a small clamp to attach it to the nose gear door.  Once it is in position with the GATS jar in it, it is only an inch or 2 below the drain.

Besides hanging out the window upside down holding a cup?

Flip the Gatz Jar tip from the plastic to the metal stick side facing up. Press it up into the gascalator from outside and take a sample. If you really care about sampling the other fuel line too, go inside and flip the fuel selector and repeat.

Hmm, do you have a picture?

Neat idea.

Unfortunately I am overseas for work so I can't get a picture. I got the idea from a post somewhere about a guy 3D printing a holder for the GATS jar and attaching it to the nose gear door. I can't seem to find that post right now. If I do, I will link to it.

EDIT: I found it. It was not on Mooneyspace so the search function didn't work.  I didn't 3D print anything, just used a cheap portable car cup holder and clipped it on.

GATS jar on a box…simple.

In windy conditions, the jar on the asphalt or on a box has a tendency to flip over :(

@MoonFlyer68 Thank you! Next, search for who can 3D print this thing for me. @Pinecone can you make 2? :)

I can't, but my friend has already printed one, and if hits GATS fits, he will print me a second and send them too me.

The bidding will start at .......   :D

You can’t be using a plastic stand for a metal airplane, next thing you’ll be talking about a Cirrus.

After what I paid for that thing I definitely couldn’t afford a Cirrus. I think the “engineer” charged me a Lego Death Star for that.

1 quart glass jar.   proper length 3/8" tubing I think.  The stiff reinforced kind.   Have to put a split in the top to fit over the nub.

There are no environmental cops in the run up area.

If you do it at run up power, it will all evaporate before it hits the ground.

My buddy printed one of these, but the rings are slightly small for his GATS jar.  it is working on modifying to fit
