N177MC Posted February 1, 2022 Report Posted February 1, 2022 I'm in the process of installing O&N bladders in a '65 E model. Since the gauges have been somewhat un-reliable I thought it a good time to send the cluster out for refurb/re-calibration. Asked for a quote from Air Parts of Lock Haven ... They want $3500 to "overhaul" the cluster ! That's half way to a JPI EDM 930 ... Any other options out there ? Quote
ShuRugal Posted February 1, 2022 Report Posted February 1, 2022 Half way? That's all the way to an EDM-900 if you are doing the install.Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk Quote
N177MC Posted February 1, 2022 Author Report Posted February 1, 2022 Not really, the 900 with tanks is $5000 , so yeah cheaper than the 930 but still more than the refurb. Rather get the old gauges working better if at all possible . Quote

This thread goes waaaaaay back, but might be an option for you. @hammdo now owns the aircraft. I think someone else was able to fit the Mitchell gauges into the same panel space as the original Garwin cluster And this, also from waaaaaay back… (pasted in rich text format to make it readable.) tablor Basic Member 38 Location: 1T8 Reg #: 3484X Model: M20E Posted August 11, 2010 Ok, I found it. It's Aircraft Instrument Support Services (AISS) in Georgetown, TX. His name is Ralph Posey and if you call him he can give you an idea of the cost based on the instrument that needs to be repaired. 2 Quote
TheAv8r Posted February 1, 2022 Report Posted February 1, 2022 Most of the time it's not necessarily the gauges that are wrong, but the fuel senders themselves that are inside the tanks. CiES Digital Fuel Senders are the best replacement for these, they are around $900 for 2 senders (L/R tanks). However if it is both the senders and the gauges (which it very well could be), then or a legal primary replacement, I'm not sure what your options are. If the gauges are legally sound (Show E when E), then what you could do is install a JPI FuelScan 450 and CiES Fuel Senders and hook that up. The 450 is a fuel totalizer, but usually is accurate within a gallon or 2 and would help give you an idea of how much fuel you have. Overall, I'd recommend just doing a primary engine monitor and CIES Fuel Senders to fully replace the system, but if budget is a concern then the above could be an option for you. Quote

So, DESPITE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE INFLATION IN GA - Mitchell gauges are still only $100 a pop ! Mitchell sells a mounting cage that allows to replicate the old Garwin Six-Pack, price is approx $100 x 6 for gauges, $100 for the 6-pack mounting cage, throw in new senders and probes, looks like it's going to come in @ $900 ! 8 years since the OP and STILL UNDER $1000 ! BRAVO MITCHELL !!! 2 Quote
N177MC Posted February 3, 2022 Author Report Posted February 3, 2022 Robert - THANKS A 1,000,000 for that VERY detailed report ! Five years on since you made the install - how's it holding up ? PS: Could you share your parts list & 337 via e-mail ? Quote

Andy95W Posted February 3, 2022 Report Posted February 3, 2022 @RLCarter- if, possible, could you send me the 337 also? I have a copy of Sabremech’s, but having two examples makes for better supporting data for my FSDO. Quote

salty Posted February 4, 2022 Report Posted February 4, 2022 I have the garwin cluster out of my M20C if that's all you need let me know. Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted February 5, 2022 Report Posted February 5, 2022 I'm currently upgrading to CIES fuel senders and opted to go with an aerospace logic digital fuel gauge, it costs about 900 bucks. I have a JPI EDM 800 so didn't feel like a primary engine monitor would give me enough extra functionality to warrant the extra cost although someday I'd like to upgrade to clean up the panel. Quote

cliffy Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Just remember there are 2 different clusters Thee is one with separate individual gages and the other with 6 in 1 that can't be separated. If you have the 6 individual cluster then the 2 fuel tank gages can be removed and overhauled without doing the entire 6 pac cluster. If you have the "all in one" cluster with the large Cannon plug on the back you can replace it with the sperate gage cluster by attaching it to the same Cannon plug. Its a direct replacement item. 2 Quote
