Stetson20 Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Was supposed to go fly yesterday. Opened the hanger and saw this next to the left main mount: Quote
EricJ Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 That's brake fluid. Either the caliper or a hose is leaking. Definitely needs attention. 1 Quote
MooneyMitch Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Do Not Fly liquid ! More than likely brake fluid, yes. 1 Quote
KB4 Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 I see nice braided hoses. So Check fittings if no, then has to be bad seal. Watched an AP replace the seals on a Cherokee caliper was really simple. 1 Quote
MisfitSELF Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 It's definitely a "red flag"...except its liquid and not a flag. 1 2 Quote
gsxrpilot Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 I'll bet it's just pads. If the pads are gone down to the metal, the piston will push out too far and dump fluid. I flew mine to Texas that way as it was on it's way to annual. JD showed me the pads, rivets, and half the backing plates all ground down. It was all going in the bin anyway and new to me, Ovation double puck brakes going on. 3 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Just to add to what @gsxrpilotsaid. Warn pads won't let the puck out enough to leak, but the cylinders get corroded outside of the o-ring. Once the o-ring gets to the corroded part of the cylinder the fluid leaks out. 3 1 Quote
Yetti Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Pull the calipers and see why it is leaking. Fix it and get back to flying. 1 Quote

This is exactly what my mechanic diagnosed. In for repair Monday. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 20, 2021 Report Posted May 20, 2021 See if you can keep the system from emptying itself.... There may be less air to get out of the system later... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- 2 Quote

I’ve got the double puck brakes on mine. Doesn’t stop any faster. But sure makes it easy to flat spot tires 1 Quote
47U Posted May 21, 2021 Report Posted May 21, 2021 I have zero knowledge on innner gear doors. But, is there a structures issue on this door? 1 Quote
Stetson20 Posted May 22, 2021 Author Report Posted May 22, 2021 I’ll take a closer look Monday when it goes in to the shop. Thanks! Quote
carusoam Posted May 22, 2021 Report Posted May 22, 2021 Key words... to be looking for... crack propagation.... Looks like the crack may have got its start at a hole... and ran from there... If cracks are short and small they can be stopped... check with your mechanic for the details... if and how it can be fixed... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
