Looking for options for cup holders.  I’ve seen square adhesive backed foldable and a few other iterations.  I have a blank on my console below the throttle quadrant where I might have some room to mount one.  Tried a ram round leveling cup holder and it was honestly too big and bulky for our cramped space.

Take a look at marine stores like West Marine. The cup holders on the Ovation are sold regularly there

If you want the stainless version

Or maybe a gimbal mounted one if you like 60 degree banks

I have found that flying won't spill your drink. Taxiing will spill it. There are no side loads, even in the worst turbulence. But after you land the turn off the runway will spill anything not fastened down.

When I was young and foolish, I was flying over the Rockies with a big Gulp with no lid. It was jammed in the corner of the floor in front of the passenger seat and against the door.

I hit this ginormous bump and all the soda came out of the cup and was about eye level. The cup was still on the floor. All the soda went back into the cup without spilling a drop! Wish I had a camera….

You obviously live a charmed life! .

I too, used to be young and foolish.  Now I’m just old and foolish!

Ask me about my student who drank a Big Gulp while flying his long cross country. It had to go somewhere post ingestion so it went back in the cup, then he decided to throw the contents out the window of a C-150. You know the rest.

I do as well. I stuck it to the passenger side of the center console, down low so when in use, the bottom is sitting on the floor. My wife loves it. And it's easy to reach when flying solo.

If you do the West marine option, I suggest putting some thin cork in the bottom of the tray, prevents condensation of cool drinks pooling.

Could some of you that have these installed take some photos of your installation? I'm hesitant about putting them near the center console for them to get kicked off by innocent feet.

I'll get you a picture here in an hour or less. I stuck mine on with velcro so if it gets kicked it's no big deal. They also fold up, so unless there is a cup occupying it, it doesn't take up any room.

Here you go...

Nice, that looks tidy and away from moving objects, does that cup holder have marking on the ASI for coffee open/close ops?

What a blast from the past. I had one of these in my 94 twin turbo RX7!

Which is still much more modern than most of our Mooneys . . . .  :P

I have a teak one that is in the front of the seat.   2 cups on either side and notebook holder in the middle.   Kind of like this.  It just stays there.  814uflsRqsL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Personally I think it a really bad idea.  Sooner or later someone is going to put their coffee there and you'll wind up with the type of permanent stains I get to look at every time I fly.  I allow nothing more opaque than water in the aircraft.  My reasoning is simple,  aircraft interiors are insanely expensive, and simple turbulence can send liquids flying. Water can be contained in sealable bottles, and even if it does go airborne hopefully it won't stain anything.  In 20 years I've yet to have anyone complain about this after my explanation.

I think the only more costly option is to get the official Mooney cup holder with an Ultra mounted around it.

I know some people don’t like the idea because of stains.  But having some sort of cup holder also allows you to stash a regular water bottle in there too.  Or the small Gatorade/apple juice that is both a drinking vessel and a relief port if you aren’t lucky enough to have one vented outside. Either way, it keeps something more contained than rolling off the seat next to you, potentially behind the pedals.
