Careful!  Those icicle above you can be dangerous - no joke.

I was worried about them. Normally the door opens and they all break off. But this time the door was stuck. I plan to get a hard hat and keep it in the hanger if it happens again.

Is there another commander based at BUU?  I may have been behind you that day I was waiting to refuel....if not, then your plane looks very similar to the one I was behind.  I think it was back in October.

There are two Commanders at BUU that I know about, a 114 and me. Mine is a 112 with the IO-390 engine upgrade.

Or a very big stick to knock them down.  I sometimes knock any that form over doors at home from the side with a hockey stick.

I concur.  In Finland and other Scandinavian countries they go around and knock them off twice a day,  they KILL so please be careful and not only wear a hat but thick tough outer clothing.

Its true.  It does happen.  I was thinking of this story that I heard on the local radio just about 2 months ago.

I used to have one of those. Had an icicle ride down the shaft and spearfish ol' Marauder.

What technique do y’all use to control the ice on the ground level? My situation is probably unique as I acquired my new rented hangar a month ago. I finally was able to open the door today after pouring a ton of this high intensity salt on the inside of the door at the bottom to melt the ice holding it down. I won’t be able to move my plane in here until I bust up this six inch thick by 18” wide or so ice wall on the exterior of the door. Any advice? Sledgehammer or firewood maul?

Where in Northern Michigan are you?  I live just outside of Milwaukee but work half the week in the UP.

New hangar is at KSAW and my plane is at KCIU until I can fly it back. Avis is $28 for a one-way rental to KCIU.

I use a weed burner when the ice builds up.

I find ice to be much easier to deal with in Lower Alabama than it was in Ohio . . . . Primarily because there is so much less of it. And when we do get ice, we deal with it by staying home until it's gone. Sorry if this isn't helpful.

Oh, @rbridges, having been there, all I can say is No! Sorry, man, but you're not just wrong, you're bad wrong!

I just bought a Red Dragon VT2 torch via eBay for $45 shipped. Made in USA.

Yeah we'll definitely have to meet up. Maybe we can invite ourselves over to Tom's hangar sanctuary-paradise at KIMT. He can sure throw one hell of a party.

Man, I'd love a couple logs of ironwood! The biggest that will fit in my Mooney. Ya'll have a lot growing around there, I'd guess.
