Helping out a friend and found a switch with no explanation what it does? It is connected to the gear switch and it is a push button.

Is it just getting power from the gear switch?  What is connected to the other wire?

Landing gear safety switch override?

edit: you beat me to it.

Can't tell where the other end goes. Buried in the bowels of the panel.

Bowel movement safety overide switch. Comes in handy on long flights. Does it by any chance also have long range tanks? They go together..,parts of same mod.  :)

I see your friend has a KR 87.  My KR 87 is wired with a remote flight timer reset button.  Could it be that?

Not sure. It is on the same side as the ADF. And the wire is headed in that direction.

That's the famous "What's it for" translated from the German "Wus is dus"

Looks like a bit of time with a multimeter is in order.  Any avionics wiring diagrams with the plane?

I ran a wire from the gear switch to the davtron clock so it indicates an approximation of flight time....it counts when the gear handle is up..

I put a push button switch like that in my open cockpit.  It's hooked to my intercom.  If I turn the squelch off then I can communicate with my passenger by pushing the button.  Like a walkie talkie.

It is so close to the intercom, I assumed it was a push to talk switch...

This would only make sense if the previous yokes weren't wired for PTT switches.

Best regards,

We know it isn't that. There is a button on the co-pilot's yoke.

Just label it "Ejector Seat".  People will stop asking questions and nobody will push it.

Good one Andy! I'm already to press it knowing it is attached to the landing gear switch.

I believe that his Mooney was once used by James Bond and as such this is the passenger "eject" switch.

Nope. Seat didn't eject. Could be faulty ejector seat.

We will report back after more experimenting, but I think the timer angle might be what it is. He has both the KR unit that was mentioned above and a Davtron digital clock.

Have you taken out the safety pins?

Ah, could very well be the problem. Whatever it is, it wasn't wired very well. The wire is just draped across the electronics.
