In Florida? I have seen that they have advertised some pretty reasonably priced services. Im in Texas, but want to start flying to Florida occasionally. Wondering how their service is.

I thought Coy Jacobs passed away a couple of years ago. No idea if the Mart is still around or not.

Supercop-

You opened a can of worms with this one.  There are several very interesting thread here and elsewhere concerning Mooney Mart.

Hahaha great!! Leave it to me to pull a stunt like this! :/ I don't need a mech in Florida by ANY means --- just thought some of his services seemed priced very reasonable. So may as well get that corrosion X fogging done while in key west kind of thing. Make sense? I'll probably steer clear

The fogging may be smoke and it may not end up in the rear of the airplane.

I bet the smoke would end up in the rear of some(thing)(body) . . . . :D

Find a good applicator... The two around here charge the same $250 for a corrosion X job (Greenville sc and Moore cy nc (pinehurst))

It will be a lot less if you do it at annual when the plane is already apart.

:P Definitely don't need THAT kind of "FOG"  ANYWHERE!! hahaha! Now not only am I thinking I wont consider using them ever, I ACTUALLY think I will set my own 10NM radius around him and never fly into it.

Wonder how hard it would be to apply corrosion X during annual TeeJay - Would I need a sprayer im guessing?

So if they sell oil by weight...  and Corrosion x is some form of Automatic Transmission fluid mixed with mineral spirits...   Do you have to update your weight and balance after application?

Interesting comparison test. Marine based of course, and they excluded ACF-50, as they make no "marine" claims. I have been having LASAR "fog in" ACF-50 at every third annual for both Mooneys over twenty years, and there is no visible corrosion anywhere in the current airplane, or the prior one when I sold her after 18 years of ownership. To do it right you have to get the stuff into all the nooks and crannies, and you probably shouldn't paint the airplane for about a year after application as it works through seams (which is good) and I have heard that paint won't adhere properly until it dries out completely. I have no idea if their claims are true, but from experience it sure works for me. To be fair, both Mooneys have been hangared at San Carlos all the times I have owned them, and we never get snow or ice here. We are close to Pacific so we do get some heavy ocean fogs, but nothing like the harsh exposures of Florida or the North East.

I didn't notice the thread got hijacked. Coy has always been a controversial figure in the Mooney community, and I understand that at some point in his career, things may have gone astray. My personal experiences with Coy, over quite a few years, and more than one Mooney have all been positive, and he honored every agreement we made for timely work and for workmanship. Of course all my dealings with Coy were well over 10 or more years or so ago. I haven't spoken to him for some time - not since I asked if he would sell me an articulating co-pilot seat I heard he had. We didn't strike a deal as he wanted to keep it for an airplane he was refurbishing. There are usually two sides to every story, and I like to make my own decisions about people.

Pardon my confusion, I was thinking of Zephro and his multi-colored but informative website. Sounds like he would have been a nice person to talk about Mooneys and flying with. No experience with Coy Jacobs. Sorry for the confusion.

Zephro (Zepro?) did die a few years ago, Coy didn't.  He was arrested though (for what I don't know) and I know he was at SNF this year so I also know he isn't in prison now (if he actually went to prison or not I don't know).  Coy is a scourge on all airplanes, not just Mooneys, and for general aviation in general.  His current reputation despite Bennett's good experience is to cheat his suppliers, perform sub-standard work at a price well above the original estimate, and to hold your plane hostage to get paid for whatever he claims he did.  Of course, Sarasota Avionics held onto one of the planes Coy was working on for over a year because Coy refused to pay them for the work done and the owner had already paid Coy.  What a mess that was.  As far as I'm concerned, Coy is dangerous and having him involved in anything with your plane is a risk not worth taking. My experience with Coy was so bad, and people know of it, that many Coy related stories come my way at places like SNF.

Now, having said all that, it is my understanding that Coy is no longer involved in any way with Mooney Mart and the poor schlubs who purchased it may not have realized haw badly that name has been tarnished.

Drill holes in the inspection panels and then it is easy whenever.  I had Maxwell do mine one annual and now I just shoot it myself.  Doing it with the panels on has the advantage that it fogs a lot better as well.

Yes, with a long attachments I would think, I've never had my W&B changed, it probably adds 10lbs or so, and it will seep thru the seems, especially if the plane sits out in the heat.

Since Coy no longer has Mooney Mart it doesn't matter but here is my experience. I purchased a 201 (my first airplane) from Coy seventeen years ago (he was the broker). I had it painted, leather interior, speed brakes, engine analizer and several other upgrades and mods done by Mooney Mart/ Coy. Then went back for my first annual. Several times after that I stopped in and borrowed Coy's raft for trips. I can't name one time that he wasn't true to his word. I can name several times that he took care of me and went beyond what others would have done.

I researched several brands and models of airplanes and decided on a 201. I called Mooney Mart and spoke with Coy...told him I was buying a 201. He didn't really want to sell me an airplane right then, that day, and I was READY to buy :-) He did want to sell me his Mooney buyers guide so I could learn more about them and make an informed decision. Was he just trying to make $90 bucks off of me (instead of trying to sell an entire airlplane ?) Who knows, but I sure did feel better about my decision and did make a more informed decision because off his guidance.

I kept that bird seven years and it was still a beauty and a great airplane when I sold it and from the pictures of Mooney events in Ca. I see from time to time it's still a beauty ! Amazing metallic navy blue Emron paint with factory type metallic gold stripes.

Opinions and experiences vary but thats mine.
