jclemens Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 The good folks from Kerville dropped in to my shop today for a little snafu on the O3 they had at Sun-N-Fun. They brought this with them too.... 6
Marauder Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Clean up that excess glue around the door seal on the pilot's side. For $750k+ it should be immaculate! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
GeorgePerry Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Talked with the Mooney folks at SnF about this Ultra. Its not a production aircraft. Its an experimental test platform used to achieve FAA cert. With approval they have the first production Ultra going through the assembly process now.
jclemens Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 They told me today it starts at **only** $650k. This ones obviously a test bed aircraft, it has a big test probe on the left wingtip you can't see in the photos I took. I am sure the fit and finish on the production models will be as expected.
carusoam Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Isn't it an old tradition where the aircraft company leaves the old test beds with their favorite shops...? The cover story is on the lines of a sensor problem that is hard to get a replacement for. Could take some time before the sensor becomes available... Starting a rumor, -a-
jclemens Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 LOL, the O3 just had a battery that was abused at S-n-F, nothing major. I would go into more details but I need to get this Ultra back in the hangar before the factory pilot's get here....;) 1
mike_elliott Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 .hummmmm has a few more hours on it than when I last saw it ...somebody has some 'splainin' to do...
wishboneash Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Fly it backwards (Ferris Bueller's day off)! 1

Hank Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 It is somewhat reminiscent of orangemtl's Acclaim, although not as bright. Had to google it to find a photo: Those long bodies sure do sit tail low, don't they? 1

I like that orange thing much better- it lacks that amorphous phallic silver protrusion onto the side of the cowl on the ultra.
Godfather Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 I don't care for the paint scheme but I must be crazy because the color choice is growing on me...really tired of all the white planes. 1
DAVIDWH Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 What bothers me most (aside from the beer belly paint job) are those white wheel covers. At those prices should at least match the polished nose cone. Steve Jobs would have many concerns. That being said, I do like idea of putting a Cessna door on the pilots side.
bradp Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Looks like the Mooney painters were watching too much of this when they chose the scheme.
jclemens Posted April 14, 2016 Author Report Posted April 14, 2016 There is/was a "Scheme Designers" logo on the tail, so they actually paid professionals for that design. I though the paint lines made the fuselage look like an old Piper Comanche.

It was an acclaim I saw that had the most beautiful (workmanship) paint job, and it was sooooooo busy it was as if the customer had wanted every possible theme that ever existed in one paint job and scheme designers complied.

rainman Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Guys, who cares about the colors, it has a second door! I like that the designers responded to consumers request. Now that it has a carbon fiber fuselage, if they could just pressurize it folks may order it in even higher numbers?
bradp Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Well if your going to spend $700k on a second door might as well get it painted the way you like. 1

Just for kicks and giggles, we asked a lot of the vendors what the MSRP was on their new planes. Inexpensive is not the word.

Amen to that. I think that's why I like lancecasper's Ovation he has for sale so much. 1
