amillet Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 Flew frm W. Washington to Pasco in E. Washington for grandaughter's softball tourney. Returned home this morning to pick up two other grandkids and take them to N. Central WA (Omak) to meet up with the other grandpa. Saw this brand new AirTractor on floats. It has an intake nozzle to pick up water as it flies. Omak is the site of big wild fires in past couple of years. Looks like it would be a hoot to fly. Nice 5 blade prop. Flew home VFR between clouds & Cascades 2 Quote
Hank Posted June 27, 2016 Report Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) All I did was fly from LA to Lower Alabama for a WINGS event. It was pretty warm at takeoff in the morning, bumpy on the low descent near the Florida line (Dothan, KDHN), bumpier on return departure with a significant detour around some cumulus (bases ~4000 msl, but headed ~350° I needed to be even). At least landing at the home drome (3200 x 75) was fairly smooth, although I was a tad fast and touched down on the fifth stripe. My landing at DHN was beautiful on the line, and my first right pattern in a long time. Here in a minute I'll add pictures from my phone. This is where it all cleared up. P.S.--gotta love the summertime haze! Highs were "near 100" Saturday, with heat index of 105-110. These photos were taken at 6500 msl, with ground level in the 300-350 range. At least it was cool up there (68° OAT), felt great! Edited June 27, 2016 by Hank 5 Quote

bonal Posted July 1, 2016 Author Report Posted July 1, 2016 1o2 to MSO with a fuel stop at Baker city 9500 worked out great total fuel averaged 10 gph with the long climb. Seattle center vector around an MOA that was just about to go hot. With the diversion we arrived 6 minutes over planned for 140 knots with a slight head wind. Pics of Eagle cap wilderness, Hells and approach to MSO. After fuel winds were with us for a 8 knot gain. 4.5 hours flight time for a 13 to 14 hour drive. Got pretty bumpy as the build ups were forming around Missoula as we arrived. 3 Quote

N5756v Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 On Friday we went from KLBL to KLVS and back we were headed to KAEG for lunch but the weather would not cooperate so we did not make it . Man the radio coverage in that area is spotty at best , center had to relay thru another moony to find out if I was ok and on the ground . I was on final and a little busy so I did not catch his N#. But overall a good day for a flight . Next time I will get pictures Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
chrisk Posted July 4, 2016 Report Posted July 4, 2016 I've been wanting to make a sight seeing trip to Big Bend for some time. Today was it. We landed at Presidio. A small airport that was deserted. They did however have some frozen home made burritos in the freezer that we had for lunch. Then it was off to follow the Rio Grande. --My wife was a super trooper. And after a while, she asked why I wasn't talking to anyone. About an hour with no radio chatter at all. -It's all class G out that way and there is no radio reception. I couldn't explain it beyond saying it uncontrolled airspace 8 Quote
bonal Posted July 4, 2016 Author Report Posted July 4, 2016 Boy that's some rough country. Flew home today after spending a few days in Seeley Lake with family. Stopped again at Baker City for fuel and asked the young man working the FBO about a flight that was leaving there when we were heading north. It was a Cessna 414 and they were leaving for a commercial and twin check ride. I asked the young man if he knew how the pilot did and he said it was him and he passed and that he starts work flying it as a charter pilot. He said he had 1200 hours and mostly in rotary boy, he looked like a kid it was great to see someone getting there. After Baker, we were getting hit in the face with about a 20 HW at 10500 so after about an hour of taking it went lower to 8500 and picked up about 10 knots. All went well Snoopy delivered us safely home. My wife slept curled up on the back bench and gave us an extra 2 or 3 knots. 2 Quote
Yetti Posted July 4, 2016 Report Posted July 4, 2016 Yesterday aviation activity was: Clean and regap and rotate spark plugs - They looked pretty good. Had 75 hours since the last time. Dropped the first one out of the cleaner so had to get a new one in out of the Emergency supply bag. There were only two with lead balls stuck down inside Tighten oil head drain clamps Finish the oil change - Mouse oil exhaust Check Tire pressure Inspect brake pads - 2 Quote
