Marauder Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 What I am worried about is the doctor checklist requirement. I know my doctor was very nervous to sign a letter to my AME that an issue I was dealing with was resolved. I fear many pilots will end up with their AME for the decision because their personal doctor won't sign it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
peevee Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 I wonder if this will boost airplane values. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 My plane's value just went up... -a- Quote

Most doctors don't want to sign anything that is not a routine matter of their business. Wait until the first crash and lawsuit that brings in a doctor. 3 Quote

The ones I know are from smaller towns and are for the most part only doing 10-20 3rd class medicals year. From my understanding they have to attend certain activities to keep their AME privileges. The ones I know only do this because they are pilots and enjoy it. Will they continue to maintain their AME privileges for only a couple of patients? In larger towns they may be more demand, but in small towns with a rural airports their isn't going to be much demand. 1 Quote
peevee Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 the AME game looks like a nice little side business for my doc. He gets paid same day, doesn't have to file insurance paperwork, and spends 10 minutes tops with each patient. SEEMS like a good way to boost his practice. Maybe the reality is different. 1 Quote
steingar Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 My AME likes it just fine. Cash money, no Medicare or Obamacare or anythingcare. The only thing I'll miss if this goes through will be seeing her pretty face and wonderfully tight body every two years. That comes off as deservedly misogynistic, but my AME actually generated some real cred for DO's. Figured out why my BP was up, my MD doc didn't even know. Did me a good turn, I must say. 3 Quote

A influx of pilots back in the air, looking for planes? A guy came around my airfield and was buying up derelict Cherokees and 172, cash money just walking around them. He told me he has an operation restoring airplanes to flyable status and plan on selling them to the PBOR2 crowd. He buys 5-10 airplanes a month he told me. Quote

Raptor05121 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Report Posted December 17, 2015 Kill one market, but expand aviation maybe. My uncle is relegated to flying an Ercoupe. I'm sure he will be glad to back into something bigger. Quote
TWinter Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Just had my physical last week...Another one down and here's to hoping it might be the last ( sort of-every 4 yrs is much better)... Only good thing about two years is it keeps me honest on my workouts and diet. Quote
ryoder Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 A friend told me his divers medical is just a form he had his doctor fill out like a form for workplace wellness exams. He doesn't think doctors will care. Quote

It is treated with a drug called allopurinol, a competitive inhibitor of Xanthine oxidase, which catalyzes the first step of uric acid synthesis. My doc prescribed a dose higher than needed that drove up my BP. DO AME spotted it. Halving the dose of the allopurinol fixed it straight away. Score one for the AME. Quote

And I would not say he has a "tight body" that I look forward to seeing . . . When I first started flying, I discovered that my doctor was an AME, so my annual physical alternated with a Flight Physical every other year. Quote

No reason you can't make excuses to go see her anyway. I'm not an AME and I may be wrong but I think the "check list" is just that the doctor has checked those items on you not that he is certifying you for flight. Quote

Jim F Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Good for most but not sure this helps me. If I want to file and go high I would bust a FAR. I flown at my service ceiling, plus a trip to Oshgosh at FL23 and above 18k a hand full of times to stay out of the clouds. I don't want my medical limiting my vertical options. Jim Quote

If the good Doctor had an A&P licence as well he could sign off the airplane annual at the same time. Clarence Quote

Jim Jim I have the same concern, my risk, for the lack of a better term and being older with some medical issues, what would occur if I received my regular third class medical and failed? I to go above FL 180 for weather purposes only so I ask myself what should I do? Would declaring an emergency in the event I'd have to ascend for icing or storms how would that fly? Quote
