May have been that the airplane was that a location without a mechanic and needed an overhaul, or maybe just moved.  You can drill out the rivets at that line, turn it sideways on a flatbed trailer.

I thought the rivet line was behind the baggage door. This plane ends at the rear window.

Yes baggage door is where I've seen them cut before.

You guys are quick to reach conclusions here. Not at all sure that is a Mooney. Ie. no straight tail to confirm origin from Kerrville.

The shape of the back window is right for A, B and early Cs. There's a large guppy mouth at the front. Tapered wings with flat tips. Nose gear looks correct. Can't see the mains, but the one door looks good. The through-the-windshield OAT probe is in the right spot. It has the carb chin bump. I'm convinced. . .

the only way to tell for sure would be to find some writing on the cowl or wingtips, or look for logos on the yokes (which aren't on mine; left has a clock, right one is missing the logo insert). Because the data plate is under the (missing) vertical tail.

Three way Partnership gone awry?

Jim, were you OK to fly after seeing that?

Such carnage of a similar airframe as yours...

CB question: Any good AW parts available from that..?

Hope you get good weather for the long XC.

Best regards,

These Mooneys are so economical to fly that crossing the country is no big deal....flew over 10 hours today.....

I do it all the time....

Jim,

Beautiful Mooney.

But confusing, maybe a C with an original windshield , and a modified nose bowl and spinner.

What do you have there?

Thank you for the comment...

It is a 1964 C.  It has original windshield and the LASAR cowl mod.  Had a 5 month annual last winter and changed out almost everything......I enjoy the heck out of it....

I talked to my contact at the LHQ FBO. He told me that Mooney sat on the ramp for many years. It was recently purchased by someone on the field for parts. They apparently have two other airframes and they are using all three to assemble one airworthy Mooney.

He said the portion of the airframe sitting on the ramp is for sale.

Love the idea of the FrankenMooney- this must take some serious know-how and dedication to put together.  Here's some folks who spliced a J and a K together:

Looks like they split the fuselage at the same point as this C model.  I wonder what the certification issues with such a plane are.
