MAPA Meeting in Chattanooga June 5-7th

Wakeup

Recommended Posts

Anyone attending? I am thinking about going if my plane is done. I thought this would be perfect for me since I haven't flown in 6 months. My Lakehouse is not rented that weekend if people are looking for a place to stay. Chattanooga is an awesome city to visit. Troy

Thoughts on MAPA training...

It is a great opportunity to meet real Mooney pilots of varying levels of experience...

The class room sessions are full of Mooney facts covering everything from maintence to flying.

The résumés of the instructors is pretty impressive and they fly Mooneys. Some with interesting FAA/ATC experience and others with serious ATP skills...

The one-on-one flying sessions can be tailored to fit your specific needs.

Some people need instrument currency, others need a BFR.

There are some pilots looking for really tough IFR approaches with extreme distractions to test their real world Mooney flying skills.

Others are looking for calibration of their basic flying skills after having some time off from flying.

There are even people looking to get used to a new-to-them Mooney in all segments of flight.

Some guys were doing partial panel / radar approaches.

I was in the 'special needs' category. My BFR had expired. Had my plane delivered to the training, got enough training and practice to finish a BFR a day or two later. I flew my plane home by myself the following week.

On the surface, the MAPA training may sound or be expensive, but the value you get out of it is as good as it gets. There isn't any better training available in your plane...

My thoughts,

Does anyone have a recommendation of a CFI who knows the 231 inside and out?

I am planning on going in order to refine my Mooney skills. Which, honestly, I feel are "adequate" to be safe in all situations. However there is a "Next Level" that we are all capable of achieving.

Check with Lela on who will be on the instructor list. Look for the instructors that fly a plane like yours...

I got the opportunity to fly with John Pallante a MAPA CFII prior to the MAPA training. He had been an M20K owner. I asked John to oversee my flying while breaking in a new engine. Flying low at full power with an experienced Mooney pilot is FUN!

The MAPA folks will have their hands full of matching up pilots, planes and requirements. Let them know your wants and needs as early as possible.

Best regards,

Couldn't agree more about the value of the training. Just as helpful were the stories, advice and experiences from the other attendees. I'm definitely doing it again. And again. Also, the materials and connections you leave with will keep on delivering added training. It's by no means ONLY two days of Mooney training. Hope to see you at one real soon.

I tried to call MAPA this week with no answer of call back. Does anyone know where it will be based out of in Chattanooga. It says it starts on Friday but I don't see any times. What's a normal itinerary for the days? Thanks. Troy

It's at KCHA.

And the hotel they lined up is the Hampton Inn at $79/night. Don't have my material handy but think the FBO is Wilson.

And, yep, I'm going...already looking at the weather patterns and hoping the Thunderstorms stay away from my route next week :)

On another note, is there going to be a well qualified mooney IA that is going to be in Chattanooga? I have a very short list of minor items I would like to have cared for while I am in ground school.

Cole Aviation in KDNN Dalton, Ga. Is a Mooney Service Center. Joey Cole. KDNN is 25 miles from KCHA.
