People said the iPad would fail too and had similar thoughts about the iPhone when it was first released.

I think it's a version 1. The iPhone didn't really become something that I wanted/needed until the iPhone 4. I can see all sorts of people having use for the watch, such as people who can't easily access their phone during work or class. People spend money on shit they don't need all the time. And, for Apple, I don't think the manufacturing, R&D and marketing costs impact their bottom line all that much. If the product ultimately and absolutely fails in the market place, it's not like the company bet the farm on it.

It's all about the fashion....what kind of fashion statement do you want to make?  I know what fits me.

Gotcha covered!

The dumbest thing about the Apple Watch is it's not water proof. Absolutely stupid. An expensive digital watch you can't go swimming with. I doubt very much I'll ever buy one because of this, but I will check it out as Apple has a good track record of convincing the skeptic in me to fork over the cash... and not regret it.

IMO it's their phones and ipads that need to be more water resistant. My wife's phone was ruined while sitting on a patio having dinner due to condensation from her water glass getting on it.

The watch isn't "waterproof" but at IPX7 at least it provides pretty good protection (as noted in specs and reviews*).

* "IPX7 means that the Apple Watch will be able to withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. In real terms, this means a shower, being out in the rain, or washing your hands, but not activities such as swimming or lounging in hot tubs."

I am terribly upset with my iphone 5s now...and will perhaps switch away to android when my contract is up - I have been keeping my iphone because of foreflight but I have the following problem with my newer iphone that is a show stopper if they cannot fix it.

If the phone gets cold it shuts off - the software now is designed to shut the phone off if it drops below some magic number temp that seems as if it is 32F.  This is a MAJOR problem because I have always carried a phone as a safety item for car trips, airplane trips, and XC ski outings.  I XC ski almost daily (like a runners schedule) in the winter months.  Well if it is 10F out then the iphone dips below 32F and becomes unusable.  It has a message that says "Hot" and refuses to allow to be used.  I have read extensively and this is a software "feature" they added - my previous iphones worked just fine in below freezing conditions.  So winter is ending....  but by next winter either they will fix this interferring feature or I will be switching phones.

Will the iwatch have the same cold-protection feature?

Same thing in iPads. It wouldn't annoy me so much if it said "cold" instead of "hot".

I can't believe that they are charging as much (or more) for an iwatch as they do for an iPhone.

You obviously do not know Apple. I have been with them since 1984 and its has been a 31 year love-hate relationship.
