  1. Hey, just sent a PM. I don’t have those exact days available but I sent the days I am available on the PM. I hope you enjoy the aircraft.
  2. Hey folks. I'm on my honeymoon till May 1. We're flying across the west coast on an adventure starting in Sedona Arizona tonight. I'd be happy to help after that.
  3. StevenL757 I just sent you a direct message. We share the same passion for aviation I'm certain and I'd love to be a part of the discussion. I'm leaving Oshkosh today so I'm sorry for the delays in reply but I look forward to discussing further.
  4. Yes they are. Their website is lacking but give them a call. I've flown many Mooney's in and out of there for delivery before or after annuals.
  5. I have to share my Jetstar -731 pictures. My dad flew one as I grew up and it is the reason I became a pilot. Nothing else like it. His aircraft was modified with GPS and moving map display before it was scrapped once the owner died. It was the first aircraft I actually got to fly at the controls of and I got 2 takeoffs and landings in. Sadly, if I had one more landing, I'd apply to get the SIC type rating on my pilot cert. to save the memory forever. This one was TCAS II and RVSM Certified. Fun fact, there was a drogue chute!
  6. Hey cwaters. I sent you a PM with my contact information. I'm based in the area and have all insurance requirements for the instructor. Will
  7. I nerd out a lot on Mooney's and airplanes
  8. Happy to help Yeah. I updated my username to reflect that. Will
  9. Hey V1VRV2, hypertech, Mooney217RN, and danb Thanks for the awesome write-ups and feedback. Obviously aviation word of mouth is extremely important so I'm super excited to see positive reviews. I checked Mooney Flyer and I do still show up in Virginia but I'm low on the list because of alphabetical order. Hope to fly with all of you again soon!
  10. As I'm probably the tallest person on here at 6'8", I'd say I can spell the beans the best in the Ovation. I have flown and teach in Ovations from the 2001's to 2008's. I fit most comfortable in the Mooney Ovation in such a way that I can't reach the rudder pedals in cruise flight when I unlock the seat and slide it back all the way. You can't do that while someone is behind you. I honestly can't stand Saratoga's because you can't adjust the seats enough to get comfortable when you're my size. Also, to get comfortable, the seat behind you is always flipped forward and unoccupied. The real question that you need to answer is what are your pilot+passenger weights and range requirements. A Skylane might have a good enough fit for you and a better fit for people in the back... although my personal preference on these 3 types flying in back is the Ovation because you are still easily seeing everything in all directions. Ovations have great windows! Skylanes cut off back seat passengers with front seat passengers with the seats and seat belt crossing in the middle (unless you're talking older Skylane that has the seatbelt feeding from the door side which gives you a little bit more center visibility from the back). Like most here say, help us help you by providing a little more on your mission with weight and range. Oh, and if you need known icing, there is only one choice of aircraft that you listed. That's what initially made me look at the Ovation. It is the cheapest used FIKI aircraft on the market.
  11. Yes sir. In the super decathlon. It's down right now however due to the owner propstriking on landing. Not sure of a return to service date.
  12. HC & jhelleberg & rvaart I'd be happy to help. I'm in the DC area closest to JYO but definitely close enough to HEF. How can I help? I've got time and experience in Mooneys from B-TN. Most of my time is in the R with trips to Texas and St. Louis with the FIKI system on it but started in a D model converted C. I don't have an aircraft to give flight training in and build complex time but I'd be happy to help in any of your aircraft. If anyone would like to get together, I'm going out of town 10-17 but I'd love to help for sure. As far as maintenance... Is it crazy that I flew an Ovation to GGG from Northern Virginia to go to Don Maxwell? He really impressed me. The MSC in Freeway is better at the older Mooney's though, not the long bodies like the Bravos, Ovations, Acclaims from what I have heard. Sorry for the delayed reply.
  13. I teach icing at MAPA Safety Foundation courses. Please reference: Forecast Icing Prducts http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/icing/icingnav Also, look at the very awesome tool of the Flight Path Tool http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/fptapplication The best way to get to know them is to play with them and practice simulated routes you would go on. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
  14. Another vote for Don Maxwell! Great guy and you'll always learn a lot.
  15. If you don't find anyone local, I'm very familiar with Ovation 3 and G1000 but I live a bit farther north. If it comes down to locals not being available, please let me know. An airline ticket would be required for me both ways so I understand I'm not the first option. Feel free to also review them on this website... http://www.themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html
  16. Don't know if you'll find a recommendation or not but here is the complete list of examiners. I'm not sure which FSDO you're in but hope this helps. http://av-info.faa.gov/DesigneeSearch.asp *Edit* Boise area is "NM11" looks like you have 11 options. Is your instructor not recommending someone? I always suggest going with an examiner your CFI knows the test of so that you know all parts going in.
  17. The whole program is a copy of the Lockheed briefing website at www.1800wxbrief.com. The graphics aren't the same but that's what they're trying to do. It is a work in progress but that's what they're trying to immulate. I do like the graphics on the web a little better though. It won't work in Canada because Canada doesn't send Lockheeds servers all of their weather information. NAV Canada is making sure of that I have a feeling.
  18. I know this is brining to light an old thread but I found the POH/AFM Supplement for this bench seat on Mooney's website. It looks like the benefits will not last forever since the limitations don't allow for a normal sized adult. AFMS Bench Seat.pdf
  19. Danb... Commercial. Which event were you at with Mark J? ACY? If you were there in ACY, I've edited my icing course a bunch so it should be even more beneficial to pilots flying in winter... just maybe not the ones who stay in the state of Texas... LOL
  20. I would but I'm heading down to Dallas to teach at the MAPA Course this weekend. Mooney Flyer is starting to create a list but you will likely have to fly someone in to the plane. http://www.themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html
