I bought the adapter from LASAR for about five bucks and the housing from Spruce for 25 or so. Now, how do I install this? Are there holes in the bar? Do we drill holes in the bar? I dont like the sound of that. I am meeting my IA tomorrow and want to have a game plan. I also heard that I need to shave a bit off of the compass to fit it into this housing as it is in the panel mount housing now.

As I recall (when I converted my E from two piece to one piece), you do drill holes... but don't take my word for it: Look at the newer aircraft that came from the factory with the one piece windshields (pre-J model). Also, Mooney made a conversion kit for the compass for this purpose and if you can find the associated instructions that give it the Mooney factory blessing... now that I think about it, one important caveat: the mooney kit included brass hardware. Sort of important for the compass.

I ended up getting a rebuilt compass designed for this mount from my IA for 60 bucks. He installed it today but the light didn't work so he will finish it tomorrow. It has a screw hole in the back so that it can be tightened into place from the rear. My panel mount compass which is only six months old is going on sale soon. I'll post here when the install is all finalized. The cabin looks more, modern with the one piece and nicely rounded compass housing which is now mounted lower to afford more visibility.
