Has anyone ever stripped the paint off of their Vintage Mooney and simply added some Nose Art?  The paint on my plane has been flaking off lately and I have been seriously considering doing just that...

What do you think?

Dude, you need help!

LOL! Indeed I do! Do you know what my food bill is every month?!

Take a look at this bad boy: It has nose art, tail art, and in-between art:

Nose art is common in the RV community and some of what you see is absolutely beautiful.

The problem is when/IF you go to sell, your tastes may put off some buyers, and they will deduct for have to repaint.

post-11990-0-07771000-1405520978_thumb.jMy wife and I are big fans of pinup nose art but we decided to put a couple of Snooy stickers on Snoopy's tail instead.

Marauder you are one sick puppy!

Why not if the paint is bad it won’t hurt.  I repainted my cowling and spinner on my former plane as well as belly panels and inspection covers.  It didn’t match but it looked better than before and besides the whole paint job on the plane was shot and needed to be repainted anyway.  I was even trying to figure a way to paint it one section at a time stripping and painting up to joints where the skins overlapped.

Lots of cool stuff being done with wraps these days... maybe that's a possibility?

True, but nobody ever got a wrap STC'd so it's a dead point until older Mooney's can become experimental.

Never even thought of that, but then again, I don't muck around with my airplanes very much.

You can strip in to bare aluminum and polish it, but then you will have to keep it polished.

John Breda

Strip it, get a brushed aluminum look and alodyne it, then 4 clear coats over the top color sand and polish to a high shine. It would look great kind of industrial looking.

Brushed aluminum would look good. Then touch it up with sandpaper a la the stainless Delorean. Or would the aluminum corrode too fast?

Chris you have some serious issues...just keep having fun..I just landed in KDET and did a Pirep to the tower..I had approx. 15-18 knot increase in airspeed at about 250-300 feet on the ILS..not sure what our gang would do re. This issue, I only wished I was alerted, everybody's insight would be appreciated. Luckily I still have my prop just not my ego....

Dan -- you should have been alerted when you saw your hangar wench lean forward ;)

On a serious note... I know, that will be hard for me. My guess would be a shear.

Just checked the weather at KDET. Doubtful it is a shear. Winds at 3000' were pretty closely aligned with the surface winds. No convective activity in the area. Did you by chance see any change in your power settings?

Flying out of an airport surrounded by hills and trees, I have come to expect airspeed changes depending upon wind direction and speed. Anything unusual about the approach?

How bout painting a flag on your tail like this one?

I did put some nose art on mine.  Sloppy black paint with a fat old brush; named it "Bandito".  The other painting is supposed to come off but I haven't tried yet.

I like the idea. Just not sure I have enough room on my plane's nose.

Judging by your portfolio of women, you must have one hell of a Moped collection:)
